It was another bad day. Clouds loomed overhead just as ominously as the tension in the air. Bad tempers flared with the lightning as weary vipera carried on over rugged terrain. Firebird's own emotions still brewed, trying to sort themselves out. The topic of the children coming along behind her back was an open sore, raw and easy to agitate. Regardless, she forced the sparks downwards. She'd had one outburst. Anything more and the viperlings would only become upset with her.
The quest to find a couple of missing cypera was a brief intermission from the turmoil. It was something to do other than walk aimlessly. Any relief that could have been gained from it was canceled out when the lost were found. Discovered, rather. They must have gotten disoriented in one of the storms. Either way, they weren't coming back. Firebird tried her best to force the curious children away without scaring them so that they weren't shocked by the sight. Whether she succeeded or not, she wasn't sure.
The rest of their party was downcast, rattled by the loss, but she couldn't let it seep into her group. Trollcat and the kids weren't going to need any more trauma added onto the pile if they were going to make it to their destination. Thus, she carried on as usual, not altering her personality for the sake of the mourning. No matter what she did, the situation was a time bomb. The Archaios, unpredictable as ever, was almost looking for a fight. A miscommunication was all it took for him to snarl at her, as if she was a child on her last chance to correct her behavior. She could have done it. She could have backed down and given him the satisfaction of muffling her, but his tone brought rage bubbling up inside of her like lava. Subduing it just wasn't in her frayed nerves' power. So, she didn't bother
The scent of wood smoke was practically in the air as the Viperaquus split back into their separate groups, leaving burning bridges behind. The only thing stopping an all out fight was the bystanders' distress. Firebird at that point wanted blood, but she still took the soonest break in the argument to scoop up her gaggle of viperlings and bolt off, leaving Trollcat to gallop after them. They needed distance before nightfall, which was a mystery on the horizon with the sky darkened by now pouring clouds. It was impossible to tell if the huge vipera's temper would subside by the time they would need to make temporary camp and she couldn't have it stalking after them. There was no telling if it was the murderous type.
"Adventure lesson one, kids," Her voice turned the little ones' heads "watch who you travel with"
