More or less, how he looked in my vision anyway. Both Alex Milne and Don Figueroa created two other versions of the predecessor for IDW Publishing though.
In any case, all are a bit like the old Marvel version (there was one image of a generic boxy character there), but completely reimagined.

I like how he clearly looked like he was a Military alt-mode which means maybe the reason why previous autobot leaders failed were the military mindset.
They eluded to this in the choosing of Optironix as he was a data pusher civilian.
I am glad you got good feedback on the design, I would love to see it used one day.

Here's the "Freedom or Submission" short I did for a small fic contest at Autobotcity Forums, it's about how I see him getting in charge of the Autobots. It was cut short a bti in teh end due to the word limit, but still think it's not that bad.
Hand me your email addy if you're interested in giving the script a read. It's not all about Sentinel (at all), most is about how various subgroups got together, some obscure characters and their roles in the actual start of the Third Cybertronian war.

Again... I'm reiteratating on how awesome this sketch is. to help improve, i'd throw in some more varying lines in your mix. For example, weight the lines... make them thicker underneath each appendage.... underneath the arms, groin, chin, etc. this will add more depth to your character. it seems to me that you did choose a light source due to the way the shadows fall... you can opt to create those thicker lines at thier designated angles... ex, his right leg... there is a sadow that falls over his shin. add the thick lines on the left side of his leg... where the shadow falls behind. as far as colors go, id change up the background. the autobots color is perfect. i like the scheme you chose. the background should help amplify your hero.... either by adjusting the brightess/contrast, hue/sat values, or by simply adding a layer in photoshop and change it to a orange to purple gradient. id rather suggest orange to a deep midnight blue... to give that complimentary color effect, but when the atmosphere is changed due to a fire, its red or sometimes purple. but you could also throw in some billowing smoke also... to give off grays and blacks or whatnot.... BUT if youre like me, you dont focus on backgrounds.... just the hero... no to make a quick simple fix, overlay the gradient over the background and play with the blue and purple values... if you are lost, i can show you what im talking about... but im no one special.... so its just advice... i rarely ever make comments/critiques about other peoples work,but i just love this drawing so d@mn much!

You're right in that I should have added some more linedepth, used to do that during inking (digitally), but I never inked this image and I slacked off not using a thicker pencil instead. :/ Lazyness from my part, thanks for pointing it out.
The background was not really my own choice, as it was based on an existing background (including colours) from the first ever War Within page; hence the colours match that style and all as the colorscheme of Sentinel was made up independently of that, there was very little contrast, I'd probably have done differently normally, although I do like it when characters blend in with the environment. You're right though, the character could and probably should have stood out more.
