Now I know there are folks out there who'd have issues with this, but bear with me, please, as I'll explain why this'll be a thing in Soraverse.

So I've said in the past Sonic Unleashed and Sonic Forces takes place after Dark Brotherhood at the same time, right? Well, around that time, Sonic and Shadow would already have the Hyper Form, and the Super Emeralds would've existed, so the gang got the Super Emeralds back from the Nocturnus Clan.

Thus, the intro scene to Unleashed takes place as Sonic is cocky to believe that all he has to do is defeat Eggman, and the war ends simple, right? Well, like in Unleashed Canon, Eggman siphoned the power of the Hyper Form from Sonic to awaken Dark Gaia, and the process turned Sonic into a werehog.

Now, what does this have to do with Hyper Form and Werehog being parallels to each other? Well like how Dark Sonic is the dark version of the Super Form, which in Soraverse will be obtained by Sonic harnessing the power of the Emeralds negative energy when enraged, the Werehog was born not from Sonic absorbing Dark Gaia's energy within himself instead it was born from the Chaos energy in his body being corrupted transforming from positive energy to negative energy especially under a Full Moon given the whole Blutz Waves thing.

So, in Soraverse's take on Sonic Unleashed, Sonic, while traveling the world with Chip to restore the earth and fighting, the Eggman Empire is struggling with his Dark Sonic form which he can take on during the day and night when enraged and the Werehog form he can only take on during the Full Moon.
