Description
Okay, let's see if I can talk about him with as little Edmontonian bias as possible this time, hahaCORRECTION: Fort Calgary was founded in 1875 my bad i will fix this later if i remember
extra specific: Cal has light brown eyes
Personality
- I tend to think of him as an ESTJ, "The Executive". He's good at coordinating people and ideas, and is very logical and mathematical. He's also very stubborn and has difficulty expressing his emotions. By that I mean... he tends to wear his heart on his sleeve, but his mood can shift very dramatically and he tends to be blunt rather than tactful sometimes!
- People's first impressions of Calgary might be something along the lines of "This guy is a lot of fun and maybe a bit crazy," but that's usually because they catch him around Stampede season. He has a carefully cultivated image for tourists, but there is some truth behind it. He likes eating crazy food and doing ridiculous stunts once in a while, but the rest of the time he's pretty normal and professional.
- His hobbies include horseback riding, quadding, skiing, and pretending to hit cyclists and pedestrians on the road. He's also extremely good at speed skating.
- He's a serious animal lover and being surrounded by animals is a surefire way to calm him down.
- There is a bit of a relaxed small town aura around him compared to most big cities, but he's still very tightly strung and high stress. He gets bad headaches or migraines from the chinooks and often wakes up irritably.
- If he can avoid going outside, he often will- even if he has to go 18 km through indoor passageways to get around town. However, he does enjoy going out to the foothills for some fresh mountain air often, even once a week.
- Actually he's very obsessed with the mountains and gets lost easily if he can't see them. He carries high quality images of mountains somewhere on his person at all times to impress mountain-less people with.
Background
- Calgary is 80 years younger than Ed, but grew hundreds of times faster due to the Canadian Pacific Railway. His background is mostly American.
- He grew up during Alberta's golden age in the 1880s, the era of the cattlemen. The Calgary Stampede was meant to be held only once to commemorate this era long after it was over, but it was fun so he just kept it up and it's become a major part of his character.
- In spite of his cowboy image, Calgary never had a rough wild west childhood. He started out as a NWMP post, then wealthy businessmen funded him from the get go and spoiled him with good infrastructure and education. He's kind of embarrassed of how much his childhood contradicts his modern aesthetic.
- He's a rancher and a businessman by trade and has been going on nice vacations to warm locations since he was very young. He loves travelling.
- His victories in the Battle of Alberta include receiving the Canadian Pacific Railway, hosting the 1988 Winter Olympics, and being the proud owner of a single Stanley Cup.
- He has been far more conservative than Edmonton since the beginning of their history, but that seems to be changing a little.
Relationships
- Calgary tries to play the aloof side of the Battle of Alberta, as if a backwater city like Edmonton is beneath his notice. In truth, he's often the hot tempered one who is easy to tease and often ends up complaining and trying to start something between the two. It's very difficult for him to call Ed anything other than "Deadmonton" and he makes a big show out of begrudgingly coming to visit him. Although they irritate each other to no end, the two are practically inseparable and very little of their relationship is based on genuine hatred. They're best friends.
- He tends to get along well with Alberta as they share many of the same hobbies and interests. There's still a lot of "Calgary Sucks" jokes that Bert likes to tease him about, and sometimes that gets on Cal's nerves. There is a bit of an urban/rural divide between them as well, and Bert gets a bit stressed and claustrophobic when he's in the city too long.
- What even is Airdrie watch out Airdrie Calgary is creeping up on you
- He visits Banff nearly every weekend and tends to feel very relaxed around her. Canmore is another person he spends a lot of time with.
- Recently he's started hanging out with other big Canadian cities and is one of the fastest growing of them. They under-estimated him in the past! He's still awkward around them though and is definitely a redneck compared to the others.
As usual, let me know if you have any questions.
