Description
I think deviantART should give to users the ability to remove their own comments, as well as other comments on their profile, deviations, groups they manage and such by the following reasons:- Annoying spam walls
- Being trolled or harassed online by what you write
- "Thanks for the fav" stuff. Some people just don't like their profiles to be full of them
- People falling for old comments
- etc..
Facebook has that ability, deviantART should have it too. The only thing I would add is that removed comments should keep "visible" to deviantART admins in the case the person is posting spam or abusive comments so that they can take action.
Don't forget you can use stamps even if you don't have a dA subscription -----------------> [link]

You're very welcome. And that is true. I can take a critique since well, this is the internet. Whatever you post can and will get critiqued no matter how much you don't want it. And yes, the "flag as spam" button and the block feature has been abused countless times for the most stupidest of reasons which is rather unfortunate.

Most of the comments that I would like to remove are stupid questions that are asked because people can't read the description box and deviation title where is all of the information that they need...

Yes, or those what are unrelated to the deviation. Also is annoying when people don't read artist's description and post anything stupid.

the removing of comments on facebook can easily be abused; like first saying something bad, get someone to react to that comment, removing your comment, then the person who started the post will think the other person is saying it to THEM and not the comment remover.
however, it does have its benefits...

Yes, just like the reporting spam button and the block feature. I really think the admins should add this feature to dA.

Yeah that would be nice, but it has a down side. The down side is that the spammers or bullies could delete their trail if they hear that someones coming to ban them...

Unless the person receiving the malicious comments report them just in time and they keep visible only to responsible admins.

I don't really see how it's any different than the 'hide comment' button.

The "hide comment" button only hide comments, and only in your stuff, but don't remove the comment

As long as the feature wouldn't be abused if it was introduced, I'm all for that idea!

If someone admitted to ban evading, being underage or stealing, that would mean that they could hide it. :c
So it's probably not gonna happen, as dodgy as having so many 'hidden by owner' comments can look, people'll have to settle with that.

I think these removed comments should be visible only to admins that need to see if there is something wrong with some user.

That might work. Like there is a section of the users removed comments admins can see. And if someone is calling them out on something they can say 'check their removed comments'.
But then again, this isn't a website meant to be like Facebook XD

Sadly this will never be possible. :C DA is pretty firm on not giving users the power to do this because it can be used to hide evidence and bladdy bla.
I dunno, what if there was a delete-comment limit per week or something so someone couldn't just delete everything if they did something wrong? Because I do like the idea, but it'd be good to work something in to where the abuse can be managed a bit.

Some people use evidence only to troll people. I think these comments should be saved to the admins in the case they need to see someone is stealing art or being way too abusive.

You can already report spam.
But I do wish I could remove my own comments sometimes D|

I usually hide "Thanks for fave" comments. It's annoying to have a wall of "Hidden by owner" messages.
Also, I wish we could remove our own messages. I've seen stuff I've said like one month ago that I totally regret

HappyPenguin819 In reply to PrincessFlaw [2012-04-14 22:44:54 +0000 UTC]
Well, another reason to support this feature then. Some people just don't like the "thanks for the fave" comments on profile. Also some people tends to beat dead horses with comments of many ages ago.

I actually think this would be quite useful, just getting rid of all the negative comments and spam
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
HappyPenguin819 In reply to Masterge77 [2012-04-14 22:23:20 +0000 UTC]
Well it depends of the negative comment: if is a very plain offensive one rather than constructive, maybe then yes. If is actually a different opinion and not because some idiot is just participating on some dumb internet raid, is better if you accept or consider it.
But anyway there are good reasons dA should enable this functionality to users. They are getting lots of money and there are no bigger improvements to the website.
