He's almost touchable. Very fine portrait. And I agree, Out To Lunch is one of his most impressive works, along with his work with Charles Mingus.

Nicely detailed and shaded. I really like the contrast and highlights. Very realistic and striking.

Amazing drawing....the skin texture is just beautifully rendered.
But more than that...you just don't see may jazz portraits around here, and even fewer of "out there" musicians like Dolphy.Β I love "Out to Lunch"; "Hat and Beard" pretty much introduced me to jazz that was really different.Β Love his work with Mingus also.Β So in addition to your skill, I commend you on your choice of subject!
Speaking of Hat and Beard, I did a Monk portrait a few months back.Β Totally different style.

I'm glad you like it! I'm delighted to meet a jazz enthusiast around here!. I visited your profile and I enjoyed your sense of humour. I love it!
That Monk portrait is a good stuff with that disturbing beard!! Who's watching? He needs a couplΓ©...
