Was this done by pointism? It's so detailed I thought it was a photograph

That really is nice. I sent you a request to have this in one of my group folders. We have a contest going on right now called "Big and Small". If you would like to join my group I can enter this into the folder for that contest.

Thank you! I have sent a request in to join your group. It looks full of good things.
(Sorry if I'm not too coherent, I have just woken up!)

PaganFireSnake In reply to Hareguizer [2010-04-24 13:25:31 +0000 UTC]

Hey I totally understand..just woke up myself. I'm running on barely 4 hrs sleep...husband was out late on a fire call last night so of course I had to be nosy and stay up to listen in on the scanner! I'm on the dept as well but I haven't been feeling to well so I didn't get to go on the call...damn it!

Anyway hope you like it over at AllAquatic. I will switch this piece over to the contest folder.

Thank you! I've been browsing the group's gallery and found some gems. Hopefully all this creativity will inspire me to do more marine art.

I'd love to see more marine art. That piece you did really is nice.

I've been meaning to do some in either oils or acrylics for years... time to stop procrastinating and get on with it, methinks!

I do the same thing with my cross stitching sometimes. I usually work on two pieces at a time but sometimes I totally forget about the one and keep doing other ones.

Cwylldren [2010-04-23 09:34:25 +0000 UTC]

Oh, lovely! I've done some pointillism (technical drawings of archaeological objects, the images don't belong to me so i haven't posted them), so i have some idea of the work this was. I'm always amazed at the subtleness one can achieve with dots.
Great work!

Hareguizer In reply to Cwylldren [2010-04-23 21:17:45 +0000 UTC]

I know what you mean! It can be quite compelling work, too. I think this piece only got finished because I would fall into a trance of dotting, and the compulsion to carry on a bit longer overcame the urge to stop and have a break.

Thank you!

The detail is mind-numbing, but in a good way! This must have taken hours. Nice work!

Beautiful, my favorite whale!

I love the finish that the ink gives, not something often seen on here.

Thanks! They are my favourite too. Given how long it took, I can understand why this technique's not more popular.

I can imagine so.
But still, it's well worth the work. It's a very nice effect.

The details in this piece are just stunning! Great ink textures, I cannot even begin to imagine how long it must have taken to do this . Awesome work !

Thank you!
It took absolutely ages! I carried it around school with me for weeks, doing a bit here and there between lessons. The original's A3 sized. So many dots... no wonder my sanity's fled!

One point by point. So perfect. The only thing that it is negative on this work is that we cannot see it in overall: there is some missing part. But I repeat, this work is so great.

Ah, the photo reference helped. I didn't mention the photo ref did I? (Bad Hare). Yes, I got it from a book. Possibly 'Whales, Dolphins and Porpoises' I think. My memory is full of holes. I did one without ref before this and it was poo.
