Description
I hadn't seen this theory yet (it must be out there but I hadn't seen it), I needed a warm-up image, and I'm still trying to get all theories down before the 19th.Also, I wanted to draw some silly faces.

Well, he's an interesting character with some entertaining tricks, and made a good villain to test the Element wielders as well as having a vague but interesting back story. Plus he's basically Q and many Star Trek fans appreciated that.

but the thing is, in the season two opener, he was portrayed as a depraved monster with absolutely no good in him. and no, he is only like Q in the most superficial ways.

"Magnificent bastard" characters are popular because they're fun to watch, not because people think they'd make good friends.
And you say that, but a lot of people cite his Q-ness as being one of his good points.

They're like grumpy comedians but with extra charisma. Also, they tend to lose, making them satisfying to watch.

well, wile I hate Confused Matthew as a reviewer, I feel the same way about Discord as he felt about Syndrome from the Incredibles.

YES! I was always confused about why Celestia presented Discord as a tyranical evil being who hurts other for fun...
I mean sure, he does kinda do that, but not like Celestia said
I've always seen him as being (mentally) a child, and the episode where he came back more or less confirmed this for me

I think that's true, that Discord like an overgrown kid that just doesn't grasp the concept of his mistakes... but still has the heart of one too. I mean, when Flutters played to her element of Kindness, turned down his offer, and made him realize something he never have before: without her, he has noone. He finally realizes that being alone, nopony likes his chaos...
It no doubt broke his heart that split second, that he finally saw why friendship was what defeated him the first time AND why it was something he had, but never before, now.
Discord's no monster, and there's no evidence supporting that: he's just a nasty prankster that needed to see the light of his actions, which Flutters did <3

This is awesome, but it really doesn't help with my argument that Discord is the first real, serious threat to Equestria in the series. I just love to see him acting silly, though, he's my favorite villain in the show. This sums him up perfectly.

Well, he had to break up the mane 6 to stop the Elements working, and apart from them everypony seemed kinda happy...
I always thought he was just a god-level being having fun with a twisted sense of humour. I guess that does make him a jerk though.

To be fair, it doesn't take much to make ponies scream in fear, and I'm not sure we can objectively say they were screams of serious pain/fear rather than just the normal type of scared pony panic.
Plus Celestia arguably had a vested interest in making him sound scary if she wanted Twilight to take her task seriously.
