I don't know how it is in their state but in mine it doesn't count as a lunch break if they're working or can be called upon to work. For example someone from tech support eating a sandwich at their desk still gets paid because the phone can ring at any time and they would have to stop and answer it.

That's pretty standard most places.Β Their job as a consulting firm doesn't normally require the need to work through lunch.Β (There are exceptions I'm sure.) Interns usually have rules for work that the school imposes to ensure they aren't worked to the bone as well.
