this will go into scraps as soon as i can replace it with further progress.download for full size.
edit* because i uploaded this at like 4am and forgot to say so. these are the characters as i imagine them by the end of book 4.
i really want to draw them as we meet them in the book of three, but that's a project for another day.

Ha, wow, I didn't know anyone else read these books! I'm really happy that you made Gurgi look more like a monkey thing. I was very angry that the movie made him look like a DOG! He was NOT a DOG! ^_^ Very well done.

I love your Gurgi, he's the closest thing I've seen yet to what I've imagined, kind of a furry elf goblin. Fflewddur needs a goatee or something to lend him a little age.... despite being a bit feckless, he is a king, and must be a bit older.... perhaps he's having a midlife crisis with all the wandering?

i totally agree with you description of fflewder. i've always pictured him in his late 30s . . . but i hate drawing facial hair . . . so i didn't.

Taran looks perfect. He's got that youth appeal but really looks like he'll grow up into the hero. Flam looks totally awesome. Probably the youngest looking flam I've ever come across, and I love it. He looks much more like a traveling musician this way... he was always too old in the Disney version to me. And Eilonwy!! she's gorgeous with her adventure outfit!! awesome job all around!! colored versions I hope to see someday!!

yeah, i kinda went on a hiatus here on dA . . . music recording and youtube videos are really sucking up my time. i do plan to finish these, though. i am still very happy with them.
i'm trying to get flam to come off as mid thirties . . . i find it difficult, but i continue to try. thanks so much for the comment!

the only information i have to go by is that he rides a pony, not a horse. so he's probably a shorter fellow. anyway, i agree, he should be a bit taller. i attempted to draw him sort of hunched and squatting. it didn't work out so well.

yeah, when I first saw "The Black Cauldron" after reading the books, I didn't realize that Gurgi was Gurgi at first. He looked more like a dog.

I've crushed on Taran for...oh, about twelve years. I'm very loyal that way. He looks a little cocky for the end of book 4 though. Maybe end of book 2.
Eilonwy looks cool. Not a Teleria-approved outfit, though, I think. XD

yeah, i agree with the cocky thing . . . i actually did not mean for him to look that way at all and i didn't see it that way until it was pointed out to me. maybe i'll fix that when i do the actual line art for this.
i picture him at about 13 in book 2 . . . so i think he looks to old here. then again, i have a terrible time portraying ages in my drawings.
and the font is called party business. i got it free online somewhere.

Lol, I think of him as 13 in book 1 and by the end of book 4 as about 19. It's funny how Lloyd just left that up in the air and so we all come up with different opinions.
Totally going to find that font.
