Introducing Klay (the young hunky hero), Azmyth (the beautiful love interest), and Nimowe (the little fairy), a group of original characters belonging to a lovely guy who contacted me through DeviantART. Being the generous and easily-flattered person that I am, when ~Nimowe sent me a surprise devNOTE one day raving about my drawings, we got to talking about how much he'd love it if I designed these three characters he'd had swimming around in his head since he was really young. It sounded like fun, and I had been thoroughly flattered, so I agreed.

Hence the mass of sketches you see before you. I think there were even more, but I cut them because they were just even more quicks I did designing Nimowe's costume than I included here, and I couldn't fit another page onto this long sketch dump. I also started to do rough colors on Klay, and wanted to splash some more here and there, but ~Nimowe was very insistent that I upload the sketches, and so I figured I'd made him wait long enough.

As for behind the scenes, the costumes for the two humans were inspired when ~Nimowe gave me some details about the story and how he'd imagined them looking. He referenced the look of the movie Aladdin a couple of times, and yet the story had an interesting Pirates of the Carribean flair, so I thought to myself, "okay, so Arabian pirates." So I looked up a lot of traditional Arabian clothes and altered it into more pirate-y looking garb, and viola! I kind of like the way they look. It worked well for Azmyth too, because in the story she has to make an escape, and the long, beautiful drapes of Arabian clothing that hide women's faces served as a perfect disguise for her getaway.

Nimowe the fairy was a challenge in herself. Because of the way her creator sort of imagined her, and because of her problems of unrequited love for the hero, I felt very strongly that I couldn't just recreate Tinkerbell. Plus, I have a personal need to give very quintessential fantasy creatures like fairies an original twist if I'm going to draw them. So Tinkerbell's oblong wings or butterfly wings just didn't work for me with Nimowe. I wanted to give her something I'd never seen, so her wings became Peacock feathers.

EDIT: Well look at that--for once I made the file too small. Sorry to all, but I can't change the file at the moment, but I'll upload a bigger file later today.

EDIT 2: What's the problem with DeviantART? It doesn't want to load files. Do any of yous guys have an idea of how I can go about replacing this with the bigger file?

EDIT 3: Silly V6. Whatever. DeviantART spaced on me, but now the file's replaced and you can get up close and personal now. Hooray!
