Description
1947
It was a tough time for the green tank engine. Whiff was unfornately told by his owners that the Scrapyard at Barrow that his upkeeping was being too expensive and thus, he would have to retire. Whiff however, refused. He doesn't see himself working on a heritage line and he finds being at a muesum would be too boring. The owners didn't want him to take the final firing and he doesn't see that happening either. But there was one option he can do to end his working career. The goverment engine had a choice and his choice was to be part of a target practise for the Royal Navy. All the other engines was sad about this and tried to talk to him about it, but they couldn't as it was Whiff's choice. However, when the Ffarquhar Branch Line had an idea to help with their working problems, they suddenly realised that Whiff can do it. So it was a race against time!
Though the engines missed getting Whiff, as the barge and boat took off. Ten Cents (who worked at Knapford Docks) was able to go to the coastal boat and to stop the exercise. But as soon as he did, three cannons shot off at Whiff... and they all luckily missed. Right on his barge, it was a lamp that somehow slipped on his barge. Not any kind of lamp, it was the Lucky Lamp (the lamp that brought a whole luck of luck towards the railways and its engines). With Whiff not blown up and thanks to Ten Cents, Whiff would soon return to land where he was brought off the goverment by The Fat Controller and was put on the Ffarquhar Branch Line, which helped Thomas, Percy and Toby a lot as they were able to better handle their work. Whiff was also able to settle into his new home very well and everyone enjoys having him on board, of the North Western Railway.
