Description

"Have you ever found something so precious and valuable in your life? Well I know Stuart has. You see, what most of you don't know, is that Proteus was the third engine to come to the SKR in 1899. Though it wasn't documented in records and such, plus the fact he still had his golden-yellow livery, Proteus worked really hard to make the narrow gauge railway, really special. Speaking of special, for the rest of the year up until 1900, the railway didn't receive any sorts of accidents or any kind of problems at all. Some used believed that when the golden engine joined the fleet, he always had a special kind of luck in him but don't know what, except for Skarloey and Rheneas who were both told by Proteus himself, that ever since he had this lamp, it gave him all the luck he needed and was happy to provide the railway with all the luck it needed. But unfortunately, like most stories, it didn't work out well for Proteus.

In 1900, Proteus was delivering slate on a late night job, he didn't have his lamp on him as it was getting cleaned up and repaired so he had to deal with a normal lamp instead. It was really foggy, windy and misty and he, his driver and firemen couldn't see. As they got to the middle of the Old Iron Bridge, the heavy winds got even harder, making Proteus having to try and stop. But it was too late as he immediately derailed off the bridge, instantly coming to an end when he blew up as crashed into the swamp. The entire railway came to a broken heart when they heard the news. A few days later, the lamp was fully cleaned up and now fully repaired. Skarloey made a request to keep his lamp on the railway, knowing how much luck it gave to them. For the next two decades, it did until the MSR brought the Lucky Lamp for Stanley, when he was going through a problem of jinxs.

Skipping towards the modern days, in July 2009, Stuart (or Peter Sam, if you prefer his Skarloey Railway name) was taking a shortcut through some old tracks to see the famous storyteller on Sodor, Miss Marvel read some legends to children, where he found an old neglected statue of Proteus hidden in the bushes. He was amazed to find something so precious and valuable for the railway. With the help of a few farmers and engines such as Duncan, Mighty Mac and Freddie. He was able to shunt the statue to the sheds to show both Skarloey and Rheneas. They were in shock to see something like this, not even knowing that there was even a statue of him. But in the end, they were extremely happy to see him again, even in statue form. The workers were able to unrust it and clean it where it was taken to The Showgrounds, just before Miss Marvel began her stories and legends. The Statue is still their till this day if you want to see it and maybe, just maybe, The Statue of Proteus will give you luck too."
