mesopotamia, 7th century, while arabs began to invade sassanid territories most of parthians denied to support the persian empire. Disloyalty of parthians and many other non-persians into sassanid empire was a motivation for muslims to conquer persia.This Drawing presents a battle scene of a parthian Cataphract with a yemeni camel rider in mesopotamia (modern-day Iraq) during muslim conquest of mesopotamia.

According to Nicolo Machivelli's The Art Of War,the cataphract wasn't very practical because it limited movement,specially if the user lost his horse and had to fight on foot.

actually yes, it's the main reason why early muslim army successfully defeated roman and persian armies, because arabs used high mobility for both infantry and cavalry units. but later medieval european knight orders were actually a development of early sassanid and roman cataphracts.

I like how hes using a 2 handed lance technique that was very popular with mamlukes and other muslims armies I believe.

yes cavalry lances were pretty heavy, people could lose them easily
