Description
A 3d model of Lyra made in 3ds Max 11.Figuring out a compromise between the shows front and sideviews without making the head look weird in a 3/4 view was a frigging nightmare.
The body will also serve as a base for all future ponies I'll create.

I'm probably blind and dumb, but what's the poly count on the model?

No you're not.
Most people aren't interested in the technical side so I usually don't mention it often.
My latest pony model (Twilight) has about 14500 triangles/7100 polygons without the Meshsmooth modifier.

This is neat! I hope Hasbro makes something like this in the vein of those vinyl Derpy and Rainbow Dash models they sell at Hot Topic.

Yes at some point.
But I wanted to redo the hair first since I'm not happy with the way I made it back then...I think I can do a lot better.

Awesome! I will be awaiting the arrival of it.
What was wrong with the hair in your opinion? I think it looks good, but if the creator says it needs changed I will back him up haha..
And this is already amazing work! how can it possibly get better??

This is an excellent model. Most I've seen are awkwardly shaped because people don't know how to find a compromise of the head shapes judging from the 2d characters in the show.

The basic mesh has 8396 triangles before the meshsmooth.
I think Pinkamenas mesh for 3d printing had about 950000

This is absolutely beautiful. If only the toys looked like this. You should release the model for download somewhere for those who have 3D printers ... someone must have one.

Apparently www.shapeways.com is a good site for 3D printing ... This Rarity would be another good candidate, if it could even work as a solid piece ... [link]

Well considering the 2D ponies, and the 3D toys are all made from a stock template with only change in color, hair style and eyes that works perfectly too.
Oh and so much want!
