Description
[Completed 5/16/2020][EDIT 6/19/2020: I recolored and re-uploaded this picture to match the resolution on the rest of my gallery. A headache, but worth it!]
...And that, dear curator, is the moment I drop the broom and run.
A good number of things I could relate to this one - new beginnings, the actual springtime tradition, the metaphorical "cleaning up" of an old account (and the surprises, good and bad, left behind - but it's still a fascinating look into my past self's head space, so I will forgive her for that)... But to keep things brief, at the time of this post, this is my first art submission in roughly a decade, haha! It's an interesting experience being back. I only hope that keeping a gallery here will be to my benefit.
So! The linework was done with dry-erase on whiteboard, as per usual... but I (perhaps selfishly) wanted my first piece to have a bit more flair than usual, so after photographing as usual, I reluctantly took the lines to Gimp and tried, once again, to learn the program (I'm a newcomer from Photoshop Elements who was forced to part ways when I lost my CD over yet another move - any advice would be appreciated!).
After some time struggling to clean my lines, I gave in and colored the existing spaces by hand... with a round brush. But not all was trouble - I'm especially pleased with the flower print dress, and I never expected that to work as well as it did (some kind of skew tool, I think?) And the dust - that was a pleasant surprise as well! That one was a giant swoop of a brush stroke with a Ripple filter and mid-low opacity.
Since I mentioned this piece as something more bombastic than the norm, and I'm such a Gimp newbie, you probably should not expect more art like this any time soon... But I suppose the program is slowly growing on me, so perhaps another piece like this one wouldn't be impossible.
