Finished! I beat my head against a brick wall with this one but I eventually broke through in the end. And if James Cameron had done his movie with the story suggested here, I would have watched it.for really high quality prints and greeting cards of this go here

i will jc had removed the "avatar" bit from his movie

yes i did this just before the movie came out and i only saw a few trailers for it.Β i pretty much knew that the main character would turn into one of the aliens and i found that metaphorically racist so i made a stand against it

Really, that's the metaphor that bothered you? Not how they use the same organ to have sex as they do to ride horses or fly on birds?
On that note though, I think if there is a metaphor at all there (remember this is a Cameron movie and should be treated as such) I think it is that he absorbed and empathized with their culture, spiritually turning him into one of them. Remember that while he has that body there are tells that he still doesn't belong to their species. For one thing he's still got five fingers while everyone else has four.

ah so here is my opinion on all that.
one thing i remember reading in several of those "official guides to Pandora" books when i worked at borders is that they kept saying the head tentacle was not for sex but to make the sex more intense by plugging into each others brains.Β but since they cut out 99% of that scene in the USA i never factored it in to my opinion.
now here is where i have the biggest problem.
first take that "phycicaly change to suit another races sense of what a 'person' is" and plug it into "guess who's coming to dinner (1967)"
if you are unfamiliar with the movie it is a story where a African-American man is dating a white woman and she brings him home to her parents and the movie centers around them learning to accept that he is a valid human being.
so "Avatar" is like "guess who's coming to dinner" where the main protagonist physically changes his race to suit the parents and therefore they don't have to accept anything.
in my opinion if James Cameron wanted to actually have acceptance be any part if his story then he would of had Jake's "avatar" 'die' yes Neteri would still love and accept him regardless of their differences.
my parents were quite big on not judging a person based off race or appearance and the integration and respect of all cultures

I knew about the tails not being involved in the sex itself, I just remembered the metaphore from an episode of 'The Big Bang Theory' when I still watched that.
As mentioned this is a Cameron movie and should be treated as such. All he cares about is telling a good story, the vox populi defining what is good and bad. The first things he said when he started spit-balling the design of Neytiri was "she's got to have tits" (even though this makes no sense because the Na'vi are non-placental mammals) and one of the designers said one of the most difficult things was trying to make her alien and still attractive to alot of people "so Jake's attraction to her would feel natural".
My point is, it could be argued that Avatar is not just racist but also damned condescending, but it doesn't really carry a political point either.

I love the idea of Human Na'vi romance, I have a question though. Is the Na'vi pictured here supposed to be an avatar, or a native? The reason why I ask is because Na'vi have four fingers while avatars have 5 because of the mix of human and Na'vi genetic make up. Β Its still a beautiful piece, and I love it, I wish I had my own Na'vi woman to love, I was just curious. Thanks for this

actually this was drawn before i saw the movie.Β so i did not know how many fingers she had of any of that.Β the commercials just told me the entire movie to where i would not of had to see it at all.
