Woah! This is awesome!! I mistook it for the official Ubisoft image at first look. I like your do-up of it more though, the texture makes it look MUCH better. Great work!

Thanks. I'm honoured that you thought it was official Ubisoft art. I'm not that good but someday I hope to be. Yeah I figured someone like Ezio whose seen the worst of it might look a little more realistic rather than the smooth skinned one you see on the wallpapers.

Welcome, and don't be so hard on yourself, Β you have some A-class work there. The key is to remain at least semi modest while being proud of your work, but not letting it go to your head

Hey no problem.
I reply back to all my comments because I know that if I commented on someone's work I'd want a reply back too. Most people comment because they have technical questions about my work and I know that if that was me starting out as a beginner years ago I'd want someone to advise me. That wasn't always the case in my time.
Also it's gratitude as well. My work wouldn't be half as good if it didn't have the support from everyone here. Without my friends I am nobody. They took the time to comment and show their appreciation then it's only fair that I take the time to reply.

It's better than original image because Ezio face looks more real. I mean, he's an old guy and have a real tough life. On original image his face is so clean like a teenage face. On your drawing it's a face of an old, tired man. And it should look like that. Ubisoft wants make him to perfect. They gave him a face of businessman not a warrior. Your face is a face of a warrior.

Hax09 In reply to reichan79 [2013-03-30 18:49:42 +0000 UTC]
Thanks Reichan. I usually find that the original is a lot more better than my work but I agree with you there. The face of Ezio should be a very scarred, wrinkled and almost defeated face of an aging warrior whose been fighting for over over 2-3 decades. Ubisoft made it too smooth in their rendering. He needs to look his age.

I'm really glad that I found this drawing. I love the AC II where Ezio looks great, young and handsome. In AC Brotherhood he was also well done but in AC Revelations something was missing. This something was a face which was made by you. So I'm really glad that someone also thinks that perfection is not always a good option.
I hope to see Altair in your interpretation I think it would be interesting. For me he's the best assassin and I always like to see how other people see him.

That's one of the things I really enjoyed from Ezio's journey (ACII - AC Revelations)
How it takes place years after the next one. The guy we've played as from his younger days grows old with us. I think it was good of ubisoft to stay true to this and to also mention it subtly within their gameplay. Like how the doctor tells him that 'men our age shouldn't jump around' (I'm paraphrasing) or like when he has trouble climbing in Revelations because of his age. I think it was clever of them to include these small hints. Made the game realistic. Not all 50 year old men can move like that without experiencing side effects. It gave him some limitations which was much needed after they'd painted him out to be this unstoppable force in the games prior to revelations.

reichan79 In reply to Hax09 [2013-04-01 19:36:11 +0000 UTC]
I think the idea of this "limitations" was taken from Metal Gear Solid 4. Their protagonist Solid Snake/Old Snake was also something between 40-50 and he act like Ezio. Most of the time he had pain in his back. I used to don't like this "limitations" in the both games but I used to it. Most of the game developers give us a perfect protagonist those games change it.
Like I said before, the journey was fun but after it ends I just stop care about Ezio. Maybe I should play the game again, from AC II till AC: Revelations. After the Ezio story finished with a clear conscience I can say that Old Ezio I like the most.

HAHA!
Oh my god. This is amazing. When I wrote about the whole limitations thing the only character I had in my head was Solid/Old Snake. I kept think to myself "Am I getting mixed up with Snake here or did Ezio have a back problem as well"
It's amazing that you thought of Snake too. But yeah. It's little things like that that make the game's characters more real.

Haha, great minds think alike
When I saw Old Ezio for the first time my first thought was about Old Snake. The funny thing is that I'm not even big fan of Snake I rather like Raiden. But from some time Snake back to his glory in my eyes. Mainly thanks to one guy from devArt.
(I miss MGS from PSX)

Yeah Metal Gear Solid 1 was the best. I also liked Snake Eater too. I loved how we get to learn about Big Boss too.
Who was the guy from Dev. Art? I like Raiden too. I didn't like him so much in MGS2 but in MGS4 he made a great transformation. I loved his speed and skill with the blade.

It was RBF-productions. He's a cosplayer and he really looks good as Snake. He also cosplayed Connor and he looked like step out of the game.
I like Raiden in MGS 2 mainly because this game is very similar to MGS 1. Most of the action is inside the building. MGS 3 is in the jungle that's why I don't like it at first. I bought the game tried it once and after five minutes I resigned and never touched it again till few weeks ago. Almost the same was with MGS 4 I stuck in Shadow Moses and give up. Rick convinced me that I should give one more chance to both and I don't regret. I discovered the game again.
In MGS 4 Raiden is amazing

I didn't like MGS3 in the beginning either. I felt very naked (just like the character's codename) without the soliton radar system. A lot of it's gameplay and enemy AI had you relying on your survival instincts instead of relying on technological help. But like I mentioned before, it's the story that intrigues me the most. So in time I looked past how difficult it was to play and focused on trying my best in order to progress with the storyline. After a while you get used to it and in fact I really enjoyed the realism of it all. How you can cure and mend your injuries and how camouflaging yourself was the way to avoid confrontations. I also love a good origin story. And MGS3 showed the origins of Big Boss really well.

We've got the same feelings about the game. By the way, I have to finish it. I finally finished MGS 4 so I can concentrate more on MGS 3 but in the same time I can' t resist to play MGS 4. I can't wait to get in my hands MGS 5 mainly because I want to play as Big Boss. I've a lot of positive feelings for him after I saw one of the last cutscene from the game.
To be honest, in my opinion MGS series is much better then AC series. The storyline, characters, locations are awesome in both games but AC III was ruined by the glitches. I can forgive a lot but Ubisoft is huge game developer and some mistakes are unforgivable. Konami always give us a perfect product, from MGS 1 to MGS 4.
One point for Konami zero for Ubisoft.
(Under Assassin's Creed Revelations drawing we're talking about MGS )

I saw this on Google Images when I was looking for a new Assassin's Creed wallpaper, and I seriously thought that it was from the game. I never expected it to be painted digitally by someone!!!
It's absolutely amazing! I'm almost speechless, but that's impossible for me.
I hope that one day I'll be able to shade like that. ONE DAY...
Keep up the good work!

Thanks RefrainedColor !
Wow this was on Google ? Didn't think it would make it beyond all the original/official Assassin's Creed work.
Yeah this painting probably took me the longest to complete out of everything I've painted so far. I took a lot of time on one small detail everyday. It was frustratingly slow but at the end of each day I was left satisfied at how realistic it looked so I just continued painting like that even though it took longer. Until finally it was all complete.
There's no reason why you can't do the same either. 2-3 years ago I didn't know the first thing about digital painting. I'm still learning too! I say just go for it, don't worry about the 'what-ifs' and 'how-to'

RefrainedColor In reply to Hax09 [2013-01-31 11:31:28 +0000 UTC]
No prob! And how could it not make it past the original and official art? It looks exactly like it, which is astounding.
And a single detail took a long time? You seriously have skills if you didn't go insane from that. It turned out flawlessly though, so it was definitely worth it. And I'm pretty sure everyone agrees.
And it's good to know that someone didn't know how to draw/paint digitally. I'm definitely practicing. Thanks for the reassurance! Keep up the good work!

Haha !
I didn't mention anything about NOT going crazy !
No but seriously. Music is your new best friend. Listen to some music and just relax. I must have spent hours listening to music whilst painting not knowing where the whole day went.
Tutorials were pretty hard to find (very good ones at least that didn't skim over the details) I hope I have helped. If you need more advice please let me know and I'll try and answer the best I can. In the mean time take a look at this tutorial I've created. It's for an Iron Man painting I did a while back but the technique remains the same.

And that's good...because after a while of staring at the computer screen, I start hallucinating. I once thought I saw the Grudge crawling up that stairs in the middle of the night, and I ran into my room with a random hockey stick.
And music is definitely my best friend! In one of my drawings, I had a song on repeat, and when I finished the drawing, it was well over a hundred. I was a bit taken aback. Haha.
And tutorials are extremely hard to find, because whenever I find one, I find myself forcing myself to draw in the artist's style, which is rather unpleasant. And you've definitely help. I'll certainly watch the video. Thanks for the help!!!
π: 0 β©: 1
Hax09 In reply to RefrainedColor [2013-02-03 15:45:11 +0000 UTC]
Tell me about it. Hallucinations come with the territory. And I can also relate to having the same song on repeat. I knew every beat, every instrument in that song by the time I was finished!
It's good that you don't adhere to an artist's style. You should always make your own style. Tutorials are only a starting point.

RefrainedColor In reply to Hax09 [2013-02-03 23:10:27 +0000 UTC]
True that. Just yesterday, I was drawing for some fun, and when I went out to the hallway, I thought I saw Slenderman in the other room. XD It doesn't really help that there's a forest nearby too...
And I can sing along to almost every song I've had on repeat now. I'm not sure if that's impressive...or just sad. Hmm...
And you think so? I absolutely loathe my style. It's to...plain. -_- And I completely agree on the tutorial thing. Tutorials are kind of a nudge in the right direction, yet I like watching them anyway. ^_^

Well it was a much bigger nightmare than you think. I didn't use texture AT ALL in this painting. It was all painted using a regular hard brush in Photoshop. Not any texture, not even any fancy brushes either. Just the one brush.
