I believe it's more of trial and error...that's for me, anyway. I try and I see what I like. I believe its similar for most artists.

Well, I mostly use Normal, Overlay, Multiply and Screen.

Normal is just... normal.
Overlay is more for highlighting, so I often use them with warmer colors.
Multiply is somewhat shading, or adding more depth, I use them with cooler colors or to add colors.
Screen is in my opinion, a stronger Overlay.

That's how I viewed them, which then I use them in different situations. Also, adjusting opacity and adding textures etc could give you endless possibilities~

oic thx , nvr knew overlay could be used like screen
tho i nvr was able to use layer modes very well, seeing how i always get really saturated colours lol, im still trying to get used to it

thats a lot for seven hours for me anyways i can't draw in computers lol but this is really amazing the stitching in marios overalls to the furr in bowseres eyebrows lol this is top-notch

Thank you~~ I was planning to draw Bowser only, but it turns out that placing something on the left of the picture would be great, so Mario was chosen for obvious reasons~

Also, I was only planning to make a doodle, but as I kept on drawing, I just wanna make it better and better lol~ I figure the majority like detailed painting so here we go~
