Description
One of my biggest passions is Ancient Egypt and this is one of a series I've been doing of some of the many Gods and Goddess'. This is Horus at his main Temple in Edfu. All the costume, jewelry and backgrounds in these paintings are based on real places and objects. 24x33, acrylic on illustration board.Related content

I was just reading about Edfu in Zechariah Sitchin's Wars of Gods and Men and there's this story that Ra gives Horus the city as a reward for winning the first battle as the gods retake Egypt starting from the sourth and ending in the north. The Egyptians called the place Behutet

It's weird to me that Horus eyes seem to show some kind of apprehension, when the rest of his stance looks like, "bring it on." I don't know. Might just be me. Still like your work, though.

Thanks for the nice commments. The background of At Edfu is of course the great cult temple of Horus at Edfu. While I was in Egypt last year I got my photo taken at the foot of the lovely non morphic statue of Horus in the background of my painting. It was so cool to see it in person.
My large Egyptian Gods series (At Edfu, The Sacred Way, Drinker of Blood and The Silent Place) are relatively accurate for backgrounds, costume and jewelry. The place I've played around with is the jewlery. They are all actual peices but are from rather different time periods. Mind you the Gods can wear what they want I guess

Horus the Elder is one of my favorite gods, perhaps second only to Thoth (Djehuty). I love the amazing accuracy and detail that you put into the costume; I also like the falcon statue in the background.

That gorgeous falcon statue in the painting is one of two that flank the front of the Temple of Horus at Edfu. While I was there last year I got my photo taken with it. It's one of my fac pieces of Egyptian art. I love doing my research for my Gods paintings. I play around a bit with stuff but most of it is accurate and exists. I have around five or six excellent books on Egyptian jewelry and love picking out the pieces for the paintings

Which books do you have? It's hard to find good references for Egyptian costume. (I have one on Egyptian, Mesopotamian, and Persian costume.)

I'm not sure if I commented before...but,
Beautiful detailed work.
I think what I like best is the falcon - something just makes me think "Heru's pet falcon."
I cannot wait to see more of your work. I shall devWatch you.

Amazing!! So much detail...!! Ancient Egypt is definitely one of my greatest passions too, and I was SOOOO happy that someone else at least knew what Edfu was. HORUS ROCKS!! He's probably one of my fave gods ever, and this is the best representation of him I've found yet.
Awesome job!

That looks interesting. Horus looks like he's drawn in a way Egyptians did back at that time. But giving it a look of our time (I mean shadows, background etc) is a nicely done feature. I don't know if it's intentionally done but it surely looks great.

I'm not exactly sure what your question means. The painting was done for my own enjoyment. Does that answer the question? If not, please elaborate!
