Before I developed a taste for "realism" portraits, this was my usual drawing style.I decided to draw this when bed-ridden from illness - my exact thoughts were: "Hmm, how about if I draw Yukke as a samurai, in my anime lineart style?"
As you can see, it didn't turn out as lineart [blah blah blah
]. I know this drawing seems 'incomplete', but I have so many more yet to do."Fukuno Yusuke" (i.e. the kanji) is his real name. [Isn't he perrdy?!

I just visualise how I want the person to look, then find ref pics which match the pose or clothing. Or just draw it by freehand sometimes.
But MUCC did a samurai photoshoot in the past, but I didn't know that when drawing this

The Wonderful ideas people can get when they are ubnable to go anywhere. The rest (or boredom?...) can bring such good thoughts. I for one like this very much!!! Since I am a samurai-freak, I do enjoy seeing these guys in traditional clothing. It looks good on them!
And I applaud you for being able to do art like this while you're ILL! I think I could never concentrate or hold my hand still.
And I do not think it looks incomplete at all; it is just fine the way it is.

I love this style of yours, it's so soft and delicate and doesn't look at all unfinished or anything like that. Don't know who the guy is though.

Thank you very much for the compliment! This is a style that I fall back on whenever achieving photo-realism becomes a struggle. It's just basically a detailed sketch.

OMIGOD THESE ARE SOOOO FUN!!! i love this series of mucc gone samurai shots, they're lovely to the extreme. i like the way you left it "unfinished" it looks really cool! perfect likeness in the face (as usual) see this the GOAL in drawing realistically, being able to take that person down exactly and put them in a fantastical world all your own, i kowtow to you :3

It is really different from your other drawings in style, but not in a bad way. This drawing is really good. I like the style very much. SO AWESOME O_O
maaaa. that haircut suits him SO good and he looks pretty cool the way, you've drawn him as a samurai. You made so good on his hair. For me, blond is very very hard to draw, so I am impressed, how great you've done. And I especially love your smooth way of shading. It looks very natural and so soft to me.
With that you gave his clothes (don't want to use a wrong name) a very realistic look and turned out so many details just with shading. Gorgeous work, really.

I very much like the way, how you shaded more and deeper details in the left and going smoother to the right down corner. That especially gaves the picture not an unfinished impression, (as you said, could be) but is a very nice style and drwas the look even more to this stunning hand/details and his name.
May I ask: did you write the Kanji in handwriting or add them with computer? Looks gorgeous either way.
And his name XD I didn't know his real name, but sounds pretty cool and kind of fitting for a samurai.
All in all a stunning, eyecatching work.

Well, this was how I was drawing people in the old days. You only get to see my facial portraits on deviantart. Oh, the clothes are called a "hakama" and "kimono", so technically he's not an out-right samurai
