Description
On the steps of a temple gate in Kyoto, Japan. It was early morning and I had seen similar pictures like this hanging in photographic galleries I had visited so I really wanted to capture the same kind of scene. Thankfully most of the other photographers around were at the bottom of the steps shooting the gate so there was no one walking in my shot. Took me a bit of waiting before a sufficient gust of wind blew the sakura in front of my lens.
Quite proud of this one.

Just all around pleasant. It makes me imagine how perfumed the air must've - or at least could've - been.

Bleh, it's in the middle of the city Smelt like a city. I guess it was a fairly cold day, so it smelt 'crisp'

Oh my god!
That is simply an amazing shot - almost other worldly
to be able to capture something like that; it's like the image is moving.
I think I've visited this temple, stunning shot.
Most would think to take a frontward shot, this is different and its really striking.
Those three blurred petals that are much closer than the others really make the shot complete - you have petals in the background and the foreground. I really love it!

Its a gate set in the middle of suburbia, and you have to walk a fair while to get to the actual temple.
Glad you like it

You did request a critique but I feel like this shot deserves a brief one.
I like the overall color scheme, very enchanting, ancient, warm, but natural which lends itself well to the subject matter. The pedals are well composed and I'm sure there are many shots where they weren't floating in just the right spots, but good choice with this one. I'm not sure how much post production you do, but I would suggest doing a basic transform on the whole image to correct for the slight perspective distortion that you can see as the left most pillar slowly diverges from the left side of the frame. By widening the image at the top you would get everything square and it would be technically a more engaging piece.
Finally, the sky in the background seems bland and may worth warming up with a slight warm tone at a very low opacity so it isn't a visual trap in the middle of the frame and may separate the sakura trees from the sky more too.
Overall really good or else I wouldn't have mentioned anything.
You're other works are stunning and you most likely thought of everything I crit'ed anyway.
Sincerely,
Andrew Marston

Beautiful shot. I know what it's like, waiting forever for the sakura to fall just to get that one perfect shot. Unfortunately, there was always someone walking into my shot when the sakura were falling...
Was this taken at Chionin Temple?

To be honest I'm not sure where this one was, I know it was a short walk from the Kyoto backpackers hostel. I'm usually qite marticulous when it comes to the locations of my photos, but those two you commented on I was quite lax This one was just a passing photo I diddn't even vist the temple beyond it's gates.

It's a shame you didn't go inside, I'm sure it was lovely. If it was Chionin Temple, though, the stairs are enough to dissuade more than a few people from entering .
Nonetheless, the shot is beautiful.

Oh my god, this is a beautiful shot! I use to live in Japan (I also saw the Tory gates that you took a picture of, but in high tide), and when the cherry blossom trees would shed their petals, it was gorgeous. The temples were full of wonderful photo opportunities. You got the perfect moment.

Tori gate at high tide? You mean Miyajima in Hiroshima? I have been there, but I haven't uploaded any shots from there, you may be thinking of someone else. I also lived in Japan for 2 years, where did you live? I was in Southern Saitama.

I lived across the bay from Tokyo, but on a navy base. I lived there twice, about 4 1/2 years in all. Sorry, I mistook your gate for the one I saw. Great shot of it, anyways!

One of those scenaries you normaly only see on movies or anime... 'cause it looks just too perfect to be real...!
Wonderful angle and light, too... Congratulations, that's definitely a memorable and inspiring shot!

That's what I was going for It's such a stereo-typical scene I had to try and capture it.

This shot is so beautiful! I love how you got all the sakuras on the stairs, and the ones passing by the camera, floating!
