Yep, I've read the book and remember that withchers didn't need torchers, but I gave Geralt the torch for a cool visual effect and... he can use as weapon

А в конкурсах и я не особо участвую. Вообще-то это как раз мой первый конкурс Просто темактика зацепила, помню в свое время книжка понравилась, да и игра добротная получилась. Так что решил попробовать свои силы на этом поприще

I can read and understand more or less, but completely forgot, how to speak. So I understand you, but don't think I could say anything - that's why I'm talking in English.
Aye, he definately would be.
You're welcome.

I understand. I see you speak Polish (if that's polish ), and Polish language is somehow similar to Russian. When I hear someone speaking Polish, I often inderstand the sense... in general. But English I understand better

Vrolok87 In reply to Heliofob [2008-10-09 12:37:42 +0000 UTC]
Aye, it's Polish. Similar, indeed. I think because they both are Slavic languages, and Poland was a part of Russia for many and long times. So those languages had occassions to get similar.
But you have different alphabet, what's hard to learn for many Polish.
But more similar to Polish is Czech. Hah! They're as similar, as we understand each other, and as different, as we have a big fun with listening to the other language.

Yes, they are Slavic languages but there are much more differences between Polish and Russian then, for example, Russian and Ukrainian. I even can't remember any phrase on Polish and feel shame for it, because I like very much some of Polish writers

Besides Sapkowski (don't know if I wrote that right), almost my favorite author is Henryk Sienkiewicz. I like very much "Крестоносцы" ("Crusaders", but don't kbow if that's the original name of the book) and "Огнем и мечом" ("Ogniem i mieczem", this should be right ). And I wrote some other polish writers, but can't remember them now...

Vrolok87 In reply to Heliofob [2008-10-10 12:14:25 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, it's good.
"Crusaders" are "Krzyżacy", the second title is okay.
I don't like Sienkiewicz. He had fine ideas, but wrote them in that way, as I can't read him. So I'm watching movies (there's all trilogy filmed in better or worse way).
Sapkowski is good. I liked "Wiedźmin" and even much more I liked his trology about God's Warriors ("Narrenturm", "Boży Bojownicy" and "Lux Perpetua").
I also like very much Jacek Piekara's series about inquisitor Mordimer Madderdin.
And Andrzej Pilipiuk's series about Jakub Wędrowycz.

Hey, just like I expected there was your reply also here
"Krzyżacy" you say... Hmmm... Curious how it's pronounced. Maybe it's where russian "рыцарь" comes from
About Sienkiewicz... I've read the russian translation and maybe I liked exactly the translation... Because when I tried to read "Куда идешь" in translation by other author, I didn't like it at all. And I like movie "Ogniem i mieczem" by Ежи Гоффман, Izabella Scorupco is very beautiful there
I think, I'll try to find sometime authors that you've mentioned... Hope, they have translations

Vrolok87 In reply to Heliofob [2008-10-31 22:17:38 +0000 UTC]
Maybe...? However I don't think so. Pыцарь means more or less "rycerze" ("knights"), sin't it? And "Krzyżacy" is Polish name for that order of (usually German) knights with black crosses on white coats. I forgot their English name.
Yes, it's possible you liked the translation. That's like with "Shrek". I've heard it's much, much better in Polish version, than the original. Maybe it's the same with Sienkiewicz - better in Russian translation.
Heh! You know? I actually think that Scorupco is... hm... strange. I don't really like her. First of all - her name. There should be "Skorupko". But she wanted to be more "European". Now there are many jokes about her in Poland. Usually untranslateable because of language games.
And as I remember, she isn't very good actress.. But I don't remember. I don't see her actually - she's not playing in Polish movies generally.
Sapkowski has translations for sure. And the rest... I don't know.
