It was designed by Colin Cantwell, the guy who designed the TIE Fighter and many other iconic Star Wars Vehicles, and was originally intended to be the Empire's standard starfighter before it was replaced by the TIE. The concept for that ship has always been referred to as Sithfighter.

Nifty! Almost reminds me of a viper from Battlestar Galactica. Loved that show back in the 70's and the reboot.

I used to draw Viper's all the time when I when was a kid. I liked the new upgraded reboot version too.
