What's your price on a set of similar weapons? I'm particularly interested in the axe

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

hellize In reply to Piratmannen [2014-08-24 17:44:03 +0000 UTC]

Hello. A similar axe alone would be 230 euro, and a set 320 euro in total with all fees included.

Piratmannen In reply to hellize [2014-08-25 14:53:36 +0000 UTC]

Hm, and how long would it take to make the axe? Also, where will it be shipped from? I live in sweden.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

hellize In reply to Piratmannen [2014-08-25 16:07:25 +0000 UTC]

It would take about 3 weeks to be ready, unfortunately I can't schedule it earlier at the moment.
I live in Romania, in the village of Zetea, so it would be shipped from here.Β

There are thousands of people who make blades, but not so many who are able to make the blades fit the person, and even fewer who can do it in a nice artistic fashion. Β  The time spent in making a handle is not wasted, as we see here.Β  The technical work is as good as it gets, (as far as I can see from this excellently staged picture) and the artistic "dog leg" sweep of the axe handle show an artistic side which is usually missing from mere bladesmith's work.Β  I like your work.Β

Did anyone else notice that the grain pattern of the wood handle follows the sweep of the dog leg?Β  You had to choose the spot on the wood to make this work.Β  You get the strongest shaft that way.Β  So you are a haft maker as well as a bladesmith.Β  Making hafts is not as "sexy" as making blades, but you have to have one to do the other.Β

Wow! Thanks for the nice comment! I appreciate it very much. It made my day a lot better.

Handle making truly isn't my most loved way to pass time, you were sure right in that But you know how it is. When you finally have a decent blade finished, you only have half of a knife (or axe, in this case) So can't really skip that part either.
