Arc System Works doesn't have the rights anymore, they lost them to Sega when they left Sammy, so yes, Guilty Gear IS dead...
But then again, have you seen the last GG, Guilty Gear 2 Overture? This is pure shit, and it's not even a fighting game, and the 2 only returning characters, Sol and Ky, look nowhere close to their old selves...
Then again, there are a couple of other Arc's games out there, and the one thing they all have in common is that thay ALL use THE SAME engine, and they all play IDENTICALLY to Guilty Gear, there are Hokuto No Ken and Sengoku Basara X for PS2, and then there's BlazBlue for PS3 and XBox360, and you should know that ALL of BlazBlue's characters come from the unused concepts for Guilty Gear, hehe, so we have a guy who looks and plays like Sol, we have a Ky like character, huge guy with unproportionally huge arms (Potemkin anyone?), a puddle of darkness (one of the later designs for Eddie once Zato was dead), and a small boy with an oversized toy robot (who was one of the concepts for another small boy with an oversized toy-weapon), hehe, and because of that BlazBlue was called "Guilty Gear Scrapbook" by most fans

i knew about Blazblue
in fact i'm probably ordering it today
but as awesome as Blazblue is, it won't ever match Guilty Gear in my eyes
the only characters i really like are V-13 and Arakune
but then again i haven't played the game yet so we'll see
and yes GG2: Overture was a load bullocks

I've played the arcade version of BlazBlue, and just like Hokuto no Ken and Sengoku Basara X, this game plays EXACTLY like GG, but the characters look much worse than in GG.
Hehe, right now I'd rather get myself a Wii with Tatsunoko vs. Capcom, or a PS3 with Street Fighter 4, I've played these at a fan convention, and they're really kickass ^^

actually i didn't like Street Fighter 4 that much
it just didn't seem like my type of game
but i didn't know they were making the Sengoku Basara series into a fighting game, that's awesome
i can't wait for the re-release of Marvel vs. Capcom 2 though

Sengoku Basara X is out for quite some time [link] , but it's not as good as it could be... for starters there's only 10 playable characters (which sadly is quite standard in Arc games) - Yukimura, Masamune, Nobunaga, Keiji, Oishii, Honda, Kenshin, Motochika, Motonari and Hideyoshi, plus they added Kojuuro and Hanbei in the console version. And the movelist isn't that good, characters differ from nearly useless like Motochika and Motonari, to highly broken like Masamune and Yukimura, but then again, GG had the same problem, and it took several re-releases to adjust the balance to a decent level (though Sol remained as cheap and broken as ever...)

and don't forget they finally put back Kliff and Justice in Guilty Gear XX Accent Core Plus, so yeah Sol isn't the cheapest anymore.
well about Sengoku Basara, i'm just a huge fan of Nobunaga in both Sengoku Basara and the Samurai Warriors series

Well, it's a matter of how you play... an inexperienced player will won't be able to play Justice as cheap as Sol, and an experienced player will definitely play Justice cheaper than Sol, Kliff on the other hand is far from cheap...
And if you like Nobunaga, then prepare for a hard time in SBX, cause he's one of the "harder to use and easily outcheaped by Yukimura and Masamune" characters. But, apart of the very small character roster, the worst thing in SBX is that the characters moves are either pure crap (Nobunaga, Motochika, Motonari, Oichii and Hanbei) or pure cheapness (Yukimura, Masamune, Honda), or a combination of the two (the rest of the characters), hehe, and to think that I was a maniac fan of Arc System Works back in the days of the early GGs

it is very unfortunate that Justice is cheap
i love Justice but i can't really use her against people because they would become annoyed by her awesomeness err i mean cheapness

In general, this is really well done. Your use of tonal contrast is lovely (great contrast in the dark areas.) I also really like the reflected light you have used on the head & the shoulders, that shows a depth of understanding. I do think that the woman's left arm and hand needs improvement. There is something very awkward about how you have rendered the arm, and where you have placed the crease of the elbow. Likewise, the fingers on that hand seem to be all of a similar size, when really third finger is the tallest, and pinkie should be smaller I think
