Very interesting, and it could also be part of a series. The first part is a termite small home that is little more than a dirt cave. As the termites dig out more, stacking the dirt on top, you get additional rooms and specialization.
As it expands, the dumped dirt is used to make a larger home on top, making better walkways, defenses, and shelter. Eventually you have the above.
