Hi Masa..This one was in fact somewhat of an experiment, as I’ve not used masking fluid before, but especially in paintings with backlight or in situations where you need localized areas with clear, bright colors to stand out, it seems a good idea..
And the whole point of making this particular painting was exactly to see if I could capture the feeling of the morning light simmering through the vegetables and flowers..
Accordingly, your comment was most welcome! Thank you!

This is so great! I understand that this kind of subjects are so challenging.... using a lot of masking fluid and so on... I'm not good at this kind of subjects, but yours is so well done!! I can feel the sunshine in this artwork!!

Hi Henelb,
you have a great attitude... you are painting an ausgust scene in february.... I love that .... really looking forward to the warmer season for plein-air painting
However... I think you did a nice job.
Maybe it could be somewhat more interesting in the middle area by using a stronger contrast between lights and darks.
I can recommend to look at James Gurneys shortvideo about fern painting in Gouache / Watercolour

I hope you appreciate this kind of critics... It's my personal opinion that Deviantart is specially interesting from that point of view.... this is what can push us artists further everytime...
Have a nice weekend and.... I'm looking forward to seeing your next painting here
cheers
Dominik

Hi Dominik..
Thanks a lot for your long and Interesting comment - Think in fact it’s the first time I’ ve recieved some relevant, thoughtful criticism while being on DA, and I agree 100% that an openminded dialog (including criticism and suggestions) makes it so much more Interesting to be here ..
But back to business: the painting is of course made from a photo I Took last summer - I have from time to time done plein air painting as Well - but most often I use my Own photos as reference..In winthertime, the.weather in Denmark is only rarely suited for plein air painting, but mainly I suppose I’m just being plain lazy - after a long day on work it’s so easy to sit Down at the kitchentable, fetch some water, paper and colors, and you’re on your way!
Think you’re probably right about the contrast in the middle - I did in fact deepen the contrast in this area at one point - especially in the left side and deliberately less so in the right side, in order to introduce a feeling of distance from left to right..May follow your advise later, but for now, I Think I’ll let it be - One key point in Watercolor is to know when to stop - don’t know how many paintings I’ ve ruined because I just had to make one more correction!
I’ll be looking forward to more paintings from you, and give some constructive comments and suggestions in return.
Regards Henrik

Oh Henrik,... I'm so glad you interpreted my input in that way... great!
Well, I'm more than happy if you'll post constructiv critics on my work in the future.... splendid...
and yes... I know about the "know when to stop" issue... I have absolutely the same problem oftentimes and it happened quite some time that my wife told me that it's good for now
In fact this is a critical moment in all painting.... but especially in watercolour as you can't go with light over dark like in oils, acrylics or my other very much loved medium gouache.
I really appeciate our contact Henrik!... let's stay tuned
cheers
Dominik
