I really did not want to see this show. I only watched it to complete the entire 90s era of nick. I've seen Doug before. I've seen multiple episodes of it when it played on Nick's secondary channel TeenNick. But never once did I ever manage to finish a full episode. Until now.

This show is about a boy named Doug Funnnie. A generic white nerdy kid. The biggest gripe I have with this show is how fucking generic and predictable it is. There’s a good reason I wanted to avoid watching this show for so long, everytime I visit it it's a dull boring experience. Everyone in this show is boring and not interesting in the slightest. They have very stereotypical character traits and much of them don't stand out from their role. There are so many cliche tropes and its hard for me to see the appeal of this show other than nostalgia and being the first original series on Nick. Maybe people just saw it as a chill show to watch after school? There are some fantasy sequences because Doug is a very imaginative kid but even then those moments aren’t too special. This show attempts to have some surprising twists in a couple of episodes to trick the audience but it never works and comes off as stale and bland, like the rest of the show. Oh yeah also there’s a lame love interest. The show finally came to an end on the season 4 finale, even though it wasn’t intended as a finale. Ah well who cares it's over now. Perhaps the show was something special back then, but it does not age well after the 90s, overall the nick seasons were BAD.

Oh wait, Disney got their hands on it. Yes apparently there are 3 more seasons of Doug plus a movie and somehow it's even longer than the original because every episode is 22 mins now. Oh boy if people hated the revival then I know I will really despis- huh? These seasons are better? It’s even a mixed bag as a whole. What happened here…. Well the show takes place where it left off, new school and new…. character designs, personalities and voice actors replacing the old ones. This is VERY different. Like now Roger is a rich kid instead of being the middle school bully, Doug has a baby sister now, Connie is now very skinny and has a stronger interest in beauty, and so much more. A lot of these changes I can get, with some changes happening between summer but something like Roger being rich instead of poor now is not only far fetched, but also ruined part of his character… not saying I liked him before but the show did have another side to him in the original that was more caring and just sorta neat. But now he’s a greedy snob, great. Despite these changes I do think the disney seasons are an improvement. The main reason? The new direction to the side characters is a lot more interesting than what came before. Doug is still a boring protagonist but with all the new changes around him that I do like, makes the content more enjoyable. The final season was actually… okay??? I know, jaw dropping. But at this point of the show the quality improved so much in my eyes. Better character arcs and cool development. Overall this continuation is a (low) MEH. Because at the end of the day, everyone is still basic and simple, but what Disney did was just add more to the Doug series. So yeah! I actually tolerated half of the series, they are still not good but I prefer something with a lot of weird decision-making over something really bland.

Overall this show is WEAK. Uhhh, better than I expected it to be? But ONLY because of Disney. I really dislike the original and the whole series would be one of the most bland shows out there but ironically enough the revival saved it from getting that "award". I wouldn't recommend this show to anyone, but maybe it's just me who knows.
