  Believe it or not, but this is a series I have been looking for a very long time. When I was little I had a dvd that contained 4 segments that were early episodes of the series and after many years where I no longer had it, it still struck with me. I didn’t remember the title but I do remember the premises and especially the first episode dealing with eating weird food. It wasn’t until 2022 where I stumbled upon a random user online that had a profile pic with the titular character and the green hat, and then everything was seemingly coming together.

  Now here is when things get a bit weird and perhaps even disorganized. I didn’t watch the show until 2023, and when I eventually started watching the series I didn’t expect for the show to be this obscure. You see, Kid Paddle actually started out as a gag-a-day comic series in 1993 and eventually released in volume comic albums. But it doesn’t stop there either, it also had its own fair share of video games on nintendo game systems, three in total. The comics are even still running to this day, so I’m actually shocked that most of this show is lost. Half of the first season is lost, I couldn’t find a single episode in the second season and to put the cherry on top all the segments I did find aren’t in English, I had to watch the french version. Well, besides four episodes…. which conventionally are the same ones I saw on the DVD! What makes things more confusing is that the episodes are synced to English audio so clearly there are more than four episodes that are in English Dub, just lost somewhere. But enough of this, I need to talk about the show itself (of what I have anyway).

  The main character, Kid Paddle, is a typical little boy with a passionate love of video games, comic books, Blorks (fictional aliens), and sci-fi television. His two best friends are Big Bang and Horace. Big Bang is more of a young scientist, always making new gadgets for Kid to try. He is very intelligent for his age. Horace is more naive compared to the other two, and has a very bizarre appetite. He is always very supportive of Kid and looks up to him. Carol is Kid’s nagging sister and they often make quick banter with each other which is amusing. I wish I could find more episodes in English because the voice delivery in those four episodes are solid and just oozes with that early 2000s cartoon charm, bonus points coming from teletoon. I’m not going to pretend this series is revolutionary or even that interesting to watch, it is a dated show made at the time where Kid Paddle was at its peak in popularity, but the cartoon does a great job representing “Kid Paddle” and the plots are just entertaining enough to make the episodes satisfying enough.

  Overall this show is GOOD, unless the lost episodes from season 1 or the second season is a notable decline. I’m so sad that I came such a long way to find this show and when I did find it I ended up only seeing a fourth of this series. Now, hopefully overtime I’ll find more episodes and it’ll be actually sweet if found in English, but as of right now I’ll say this show is just good.
