The show has a three day format, the conflict starts on a friday, the plot is escalated on saturday, and the climatic third act is on sunday and wraps up everything by the end of the story. It’s a neat formula and is done fairly well, and it's helped by these kids that I fairly enjoy.
Tino, the main character, serves as the narrator to start and cap off the story in most episodes. Sometimes they mix things up a little and have other characters narrate whether it be for a joke or to add more content to the story when Tino isn’t present. Tino is often immature, up in his head, and sarcastic (he got that last part from his divorced mother). Lor is probably my favorite out of the four, she’s the middle school jock and is often very rude and bad at schoolwork. But the best part is that she’s not really dumb perse, just easily distracted and she isn’t aware that what she says can be very mean. Carver may be my least favorite but I still like him, he’s just the least interesting by default. Carver is self centered and likes to be viewed as the “cool kid” though he mostly makes a fool out of himself when he acts too high and mighty, he’s still fine but I feel like the show has too many episodes where he wants to be one of the popular kids. Last but not least is Tish, who’s their smartest friend. She’s a perfectionist and often quotes William Shakespear. While her friends make jabs on her for not being athletic and can be too nerdy, they still respect and care about her just like everyone else in the friend group. I really like these characters and as the show goes on we get to know more of their interests and each of their families.
The show isn’t really “serialized” but it does have small character growth improving the kids and some tiny arcs throughout the show. It also has some cool callbacks from past episodes that rewards people who were paying attention even if it's something small such as Carver’s favorite pizza that began as a short one off joke. I really appreciate the show’s animation, it's pretty smooth and always moving. They have little touches to the characters that you wouldn’t normally see in a tv show, such as moving their hair or scratching their head while they are talking. Also hooray, the second animated series I know that changes their clothes everyday. The show is also funny, the snappy dialogue from the adults and kids can be cleverly thought out. My favorite joke in this show however HAS to be the running gag of the Pizza Parlor changing its theme and name every week that the kids go to. Prison Pizza, The Court’s Pizza, Pizza The Musical, Where’s the Pizza? It’s always fun to see what they come up with.
Overall this show is GOOD. Teaches good life lessons and the characters and humor is charming enough to make it an easy watch. The only sections of the show I don’t like as much as the rest were the beginning and ending. I think the show was finding its footing in the early episodes and in season 4 you could sense the show starting to lose steam as the regular stories were winding things down. I'm glad the show ended after that, it had a good run. Also if you're wondering about the lack of great episodes its because almost every episode blends in with each other, still good but hard to find many of them that really sticks out.
