Description
I finally managed to sum up some free time, a little bit of inspiration and all what is left of my painting skills - this is the result! It's been nearly 8 month since my last wallpaper and I already doubted I could do this ever again, but I guess I was wrong.Inspiration and reference was the picture database of the NASA Dryden Flight Research Center. For a few words on the subject see the text in the preview.
The DOWNLOAD contains 2 different versions: 'dawn' and 'bluesky', each version comes in resolutions:
1920.1440, 1600.1200, 1280.960, 1024.768

It's still sad that we'll never see the shuttle fly again.

i feel so stupid. all of the times i had seen this image (usually in a thumbnail or something), i had thought it was a nice wall but really had no interest in downloading it before. however i was browsing your site recently and saw in your description of this that it was the Enterprise. i'm a huge Star Trek fan, and i love the history that this shuttle has in the timeline of vessels named Enterprise. thank you for making this. downloading now ^^.

Though many people will try to say it was coincidence, The OV-101 WAS actually named after the Starship Enterprise from Star Trek. Even played the trek theme, and had Roddenberry and cast on hand, for its unveiling. I'm sure every long-time Trek fan would have loved to have been there at that moment. I know it would have moved me to tears.

one thing i have to point out..
i noticed that the back of the space shuttle is basicaly closed off and there
are no exaust pipes, are you tryign to say that this is a more eco-friendly shuttle??

The Enterprise was the first shuttle ever build, and it never entered space. It's purpose was to perform test flights. It was carried up piggyback on a 747 and then glided back down (as all Shuttles do, they do not use their boosters after reentering the atmosphere). The cover I chose to picture here was only used a few times for the first tests though, but I liked the smooth lines of this modification.

Very cool. Do you think you could do a darker night-time version? Maybe two versions, one a night version of the blue, the other a night version of the purple, and the both have less clouds and some stars? That would rock.

Lovely... nice tranquil atmosphere in this wallpaper. I like the soft colors, especially in the 'dawn' variation. Excellent work
