Description "Unification" is one of my very favorite episodes in all of Star Trek. Here's the breakdown:
Romulans in an episode. Win.
A TOS character in a TNG episode. Win.
That character being Spock. Win.
Data being featured prominantly in an episode. Win.
So Data and Spock in the same room means that there's a lot of awesome in that room. And Picard was there too!
It's a wonder the Romulans have any buildings left after that episode.

which I don't own : standard disclaimer.

Irony: a half-human trying to ignore that side of his makeup, and an android who wants nothing more than to be human.

I totally agree!

There's another moment with Mr. Nimoy that has three times the awesome that could make the universe explode.
In 1986, Tim Burton directed an episode of the Faerie Tale Theater.  It was the story of Aladdin.  Leonard Nimoy played the part of the Evil Moroccan Magician and the Genie was played by James Earl Jones.
Think this through!  In a world made by Tim Burton, Mr. Spock meets Darth Vader!!!

Is it a coincidence that both of my favourite characters in Star Trek have to be the emotionless vegetables?
I love them so much. *cries*

hermione-of-vulcan In reply to EchoXVII [2013-06-24 02:37:53 +0000 UTC]

It is illogical to cry at this time.
In my experience, humans cry when they are upset. Loving us is not a reason to be upset, as I am given to understand that love is a positive emotion.
I believe I speak for both of us when I say that we are gratified that you feel that way.
*nods* ...But I do not understand why we are being equated to vegetables.
Perhaps it's a comparison between our stoicism and a vegetable's lack of sentience. However, a fruit would serve just as well.
Many humans prefer fruit to vegetables due to the high sugar content of the former. It would be more flattering to be compared to a fruit.
I don't believe humans consider logic to be sweet.
But she says she loves us, therefore she must find us appealing.
Perhaps "vegetable" is some human slang we're unfamiliar with.
That seems likely. Let us go look it up.
Agreed.

All right, this should amuse you.

I have the first five seasons of Star Trek TNG on DVD. I was originally watching them in one fell swoop, but during Season 4, my ex decided to become my ex, which meant that suddenly I was moving back home--a six-hour drive, and pregnant, no less--and I was too weepy to keep watching during this time, so I never finished.

Five years later, I spot this, shriek like a little girl (scaring my little girl in the process), and bolt for the bedroom, banging into the doorframe by accident on the way. When you're a girl, that HURTS. I then proceeded to tear apart my closet until I found that one disk, and promptly set aside all other obligations, including food and sleep, to watch the episode for the first time.

I would now like to express my delight and gratitude: FDSALSKDJA;LKSAVHPEWU5PU4GIQ3UY4TQPUIQ3PUIY!!!!

Thank you. That is all.

There are no words to express how weird my roommate thinks I am, now. Especially after he was like, "Who's that blonde chick with the bad attitude? She doesn't look Vulcan."

Cue epic rant about Tasha Yar and alternate universes and time travel and the similarities/differences between Vulcans and Cardassians, etc, etc.

...Romulans, not Cardassians.
Sorry. I'm a nerd/geek.
I have done those rants too, but it's usually somebody who doesn't even know enough Star Trek to say Vulcan. They think it's Star Wars. Or even if they know Star Trek, I'll know way too much.

Not nearly as bad as these two girls who believed that since Star Trek, Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, and Doctor Who all contained the same species, (Which they DON'T, big difference between Vulcans and Vogons and Sontarans) they were all written by the same people. WOW.

Sorry, my bad. I was trying to type that WHILE I was discussing Cardassians with Justin at the same time. Apparently, he thinks that watching a week's worth of DS-9 makes him some sort of expert on the show. And I may not be as familiar with DS-9 as I am TOS or TNG, but at least I'm aware that Kira's NOT FUCKING CARDASSIAN AND WOULD KICK YOUR ASS FOR SAYING SO...

hermione-of-vulcan In reply to Blackwidina [2012-04-04 21:58:02 +0000 UTC]

I've seen a total of ONE episode of DS9 and I know that Kira's not Cardassian. Bajoran, right?
Sorry for taking so long to reply, been busy.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Blackwidina In reply to hermione-of-vulcan [2012-04-05 00:51:04 +0000 UTC]

Yes, Bajoran. Who, at the beginning of the series, have just won a rebellion against the Cardassians, who had occupied their planet. DS-9 was originally a Cardassian station. Calling Kira-who was one of the rebels against the occupation-is the same kind of fucked up as that one episode of TOS where Shatner and Nimoy, both Jewish, were wearing Nazi uniforms. Just . . . just WRONG.

The episode of TOS was actually not bad in and of itself, but I wonder how the actors were convinced to take part.

Blackwidina In reply to hermione-of-vulcan [2012-04-08 22:56:54 +0000 UTC]

Probably the same way they get ANY actor into a Nazi costume: because the overall message is that Nazis (or self-styled Nazis, in this case) are BAD. At no point is the Nazi regime heralded as anything other than horrific, and the guy that argues for it is pretty much treated as crazy.

...because he was, of course.
One of the many awesome things about Star Trek is how they can do these types of stories, with messages that aren't just meant for the future.
