Description
This is a gray wolf by the name of Maiken. She arrived at JCW with another wolf cub his age, but Maiken was pretty much terrified of anything that moved, include me, to my dismay. She just sat in a corner all day, shaking and made no progress with people. So the staff at JCW put him in with two adult wolves, one male and one female and they hit it off. Now, Maiken is completely different.! She gets along great with the pack and isn't too afraid of people anymore. It is really heartwarming. This shot was taken from a ridiculous distance so I am surprised it turned out. The shadow effect occurred with the sunset, but I accentuated it in Photoshop.
I guess I could say that this one is for all the wolf fans who watch me - I admit that my gallery's selection of quality wolf photos is quite poor. Moreover, the quantity isn't something to write home about either. It certainly doesn't reflect how much I like them. They are my second favorite animal, after all.

I love it! I love the lighting at which this photo was shot. It appears to correspond to your moral.

Beautiful photo. That is a Cherokee story isnt it? You are so lucky to get to be with so many wild animals up close. I got to go hiking with a full blooded wolf that my uncles buddy owned. I do not generally support keeping wild animals as pets but i can sympathize why ppl do. Its almost magical. His name was Shadow. I got to touch and watch him. I was careful not to disrespect him. I just watched. So in awe. I was just 9 years old. I cant ever forget that magical feeling i had. We walked 6 miles following a creek. He stayed right with us off leash. We were walking through the creek and i can still remember seeing him running weaving in and out of view along the edge of the creek. He was obediant and so gentle. His owner put one of his treats in between my lips, and (much to my mothers dismay) Shadow put his front paws on the rock i was sitting on and ever so gently took the treat from me. I have loved wolves since i was 3 years old so that was a very thrilling experience. I will never forget it.

According to a friend, it's not a Cherokee story as it is perpetuated.

She's quite well-versed in north-American indigenous studies and works with members of various communities. Her understanding of indigenous people (and respecting them) is how I am with tigers.

Sure thing; however, I do have a few rules for those wishing to use my work for reference.
1) Be sure to credit myself by a link back to my profile
2) If the animal's name is mentioned, be sure to credit them too!
3) Link me when you are finished. I would very much like to see what you come up with!
I would definitely appreciate that. Best of luck!

my mom used to work at a wolf preserve close to Houston, but they had to shut down because the wolves weren't getting their proper vaccines.... I remember being six, and visiting there during a party, I heard a howl that sent me scurrying underneath the closest table. everybody was laughing.... I was totally embarressed.

That's not good. Unfortunately, a lot of zoos and private collections don't take care of their animals, especially in Texas.

Oh, this is wonderful, you took this from a distance? You must have a great camera. I understand how you feel not posting much wolf stuff even though you really like them. I post a lot of wolves, but I also adore snow leopards, but you wouldn't know from looking in my gallery.

I'm doing very well...I don't think I have to worry about getting into the top 10. However, the real test is convincing Terri to choose me to win; one of the ways I can do that is continuing to get support so that she sees how many people would want to see me win.
