Description
i have a bunch of these old characters from when i was way into the idea of making my comic book, then i realized i suck at sequential art and filed them back in my brain. but they still really appeal to me as sort of avatars of what i like and what i'm like. so this is jonnathan, whose name is always changing spellings depending on how i feel about it (sort of like my own name). i had trouble making his lightning bolt sideburn tattoo stand out, since it's supposed to be almost the same color as his hair. i hope it looks ok on darker moniters.i did use a reference photo for this pose...but i forget where i got it. so thank you, guy in smoker2.jpg, wherever you are.
(p.s. those are supposed to be scars on his knuckles, i just rendered them badly, and his ear is like that because having piercings ripped out is always an adventure)

He's a cutie. I'd do the piss outta him. Nicely rendered, what sort of medium is this? I am afraid I am unfamiliar with anything aside from a paintbrush.

...good try but lack of details.
maybe you could take care of the details - eyeballs ( enhance the feel of the character)
- ears ( don't lookpass the ears, characteristic)
- smoke and fire of the cigarette. (try add more layer for the smoke and different toning)
- the main thing is ur light source. it helps alot!
patience ...and it turns out nice..have fun

hmmm, "eyeballs ( enhance the feel of the character)" doesn't really tell me WHAT you think should be changed about them.
also, "ears ( don't lookpass the ears, characteristic)" doesn't make much sense to me at all.
i agree the lighting could be better, i'm still fucking around with it.
thank you for the critique. but to be frank, my illustration work is purely personal and i'm not striving to impress anyone but just fulfill a nibbling in my brain.

I read this as a guy staring out a rainy window into nothing, his head calmly racing with thought, not realizing the waitress that tapped his shoulder with his coffee in her hand.

Fook! Wonderful! Excellent arrangement, superb depth through color, and the smoke simply makes me happy, "happy," I say! Oh! I like his hair! And though I'd like to intelligently critique the piece, it's beyond a complex analysis, and the only way one could really describe it is by saying, "whoa!"
By the way, simply because you "suck at" sequential art, doesn't mean you couldn't do a comic-book -- you don't necessarily have to have "directly" sequential art in a comic-book, myself I have an interest in a "children's book" style approach (where text is attached to images that occur sequentially page to page, but not box to box on a page (my personal opinion, "to hell with box-art and word-bubbles")). You get what I'm saying? The catch, I don't know of a publisher who'd publish a book with that approach, though I'm currently looking at publishing through 'NBM' -- NBM publishes graphic-novels (or as I like to say, "graphic-novelette," as "novelette" means a short novel, and most graphic-novels are around 70 to a 100 pages long, where as a "novel," is usually 300 pages or more). Shit . . . I'm rambling on and on . . . Sorry about that!

thank you!
and...it's very true, though i always saw it (my characters/story/etc) more as regular comic book form than anything else. and when i say i suck at sequential art...i also mean it's hard for me to draw a lot of images in a certain amount of time, without changing their style or doing something different. and if i did a comic i wouldn't want it to look all jumbled and mismatched like that, it would just be frustrating to me. i'm really obsessively perfectionist about these characters, which is weird because i'm not as bad about that with other things i do. maybe it's just because they're so "near and dear" to me? i'm not sure....
i'll have to look into NBM publishing though, i'd like to see what they've put out!

Yeah I know what you mean about the "near and dear to me" part, as I have similar feelings about my own characters, story, and continuity! Maybe we might work together though, some day, though, eh? Sorry I don't have any work on my DA gallery, currently -- everything I have produced recently is concept work for my book, and I really don't want to show any of it until my book is in publication, you know? By the way, my work is influenced quite a bit by graffiti art . . . You ever notice how some people spell graffiti "grafitti?" According to [link] "graffiti" is correct, and yet so many people spell it "grafitti," understandably, as it's pronounced with a double "t!" Huh . . . Who knows . . .
