In the first half of 2023, I was challenged to design a unique ZX Spectrum game based upon the Star Wars movie The Empire Strikes Back. The idea was to create something that showed more of the movie, more faithfully than either the old Atari arcade game or the more recent - but still retro - games for the 8-bit and 16-bit consoles from Sega and Nintendo.

Here's the first new screen using the adjusted geometry based on advice received from a couple of coders. This is part of Luke's Jedi training on Dagobah - running through the swampland assault course with Yoda on his back. Some of the advice I received essentially recommended against too much colour, but I'm trying to be optimistic for the moment. While this is supposed to be something that could have appeared on the Spectrum circa 1988, I can't help but be influenced by more recent games, such as Valley of Rains, Angels and Seraphima by Zosya Entertainment.

Decided to reorganise the panel slightly - moved the timer out of the health/score section and increased the height of the ESB logo on the left. Not certain this is final... Currently debating moving the 'radar' out of the silver frame.
