Once I'd settled on a 'cityscape' for the 'Revived' caverns and a mine for the 'Remixed' caverns, my first thought for the 'Renovated' caverns was that Miner Willy should emerge into an alien landscape, with little more than the doorway to his home sitting on a cliff overlooking a sunrise/sunset over distant mountains, and another planet dimly visible through the atmosphere. A good part of the inspiration behind this image was www.deviantart.com/omniac173/a… , though the 12-colour palette available to me wasn't quite equal to its subtleties.

I played with several ideas of how the light would interact with the mountains, adding and removing features like clouds and a gigantic Miner Willy-shaped monolith standing between the peaks, illuminated by a beam of light from the sky. In the end, I settled on a simpler idea.

Nevertheless, this image was far easier to complete than any of the others. I'm not completely happy with it even now but, equally, I think it's the one I'm least likely to want to change now it's done.
