Description requested a walkthrough a little while back on how I do my paintings and I thought it sounded like a fun idea
This was a sort-of cell-shaded example.

Oh! Before I go any further. Just to make things clear, I use paint sai tool to draw out lineart and usually use photoshop for most other things after that point. Paint sai tool has a great pen stabilization tool, which makes drawing smooth lines so much easier than photoshop. I sometimes do a lot of painting in paint sai tool itself. Depending on the effect I'm going for, I'll often export a PSD and swap between programs regularly. Each program does different things well. Photoshop is better for all the different filters and blur tools, paint sai is better for drawing in my opinion.

Most people have a certain process that they go through whilst painting. This one in particular took a lot of going back and fourth and experimenting. To be honest, I don't know what I'm doing half the time . I just keep going til I find an effect I like and work with it. For me, the final image just evolves as time goes on. I don't rigidly stick to a predetermined image I have in my mind.

Well, I hope it helps or amuses somebody out there

Very nice tutorial!
Seems like Paint Tool Sai!
I have a question, is it easy to use, and does it cost money? Also, is a Wacom needed?
I have always been wondering, since the program I use no longer works the way I wanted it. XD

Yeah, I do that to most of my stuff now. I haven't got good at actually PAINTING them in, I'm just cheaty and lay them on the top afterwards.
A few of my university colleagues paint with them and they're in a whole other league *jealous green*

O.o I suppose, as Boromir would say it, that "One does not simply make an epic Warriors pic". I was never really aware of how much detail went into these.

Haha, aww thank you
One does simply not plug a cable into your ear and transmit brain images to the computer I wish! If only. Mine would probably be very boring

How do you get the blue color to the face to make the glow highlight effect?

heylorlass In reply to Talentha [2014-09-18 08:08:09 +0000 UTC]

I usually just make a new layer, paint over the areas I want to with a really light blue and set the layer to 'overlay' or 'highlight'. I usually fiddle around with the layer options changing the opacity and colour til I have it how I want. To finish it I blur the edges or use a gaussian blur
