For those who don't understand the symbolism of the first panel, they are walking a patrol, one of many that Brutus has walked in his past. But in this instance, Pixie's love of flowers has drawn her to a landmine. It shows the deception, and the destruction of innocence caused from war.

But to his relief she's still there to comfort him, and give him unconditional love. And for Brutus, protecting her has been one of the best duties he's ever performed in his lifetime! He's more like a daddy to her, than a big brother, with a bond like no other.
