This KWPN mare is for sale!
"Are you ready?" Aleia asked, heading the red-headed mare as Azreth placed his foot in the stirrup. She corrected Ciara as the horse tried to shove her over.
"As ready as ever," Azreth said cheerily. Ciara was coming along in her training, but every so often the mare had opinions.
Those opinions were usually of the "get off of me" variety, but Azreth had yet to come off her. He swung his leg over Ciara's back, slipped his foot into the other stirrup, and steered the mare away from Aleia as she let her go.
"Be careful please."
Azreth chuckled. "You're cute when you're worried."
Aleia had seen the last time that Ciara decided she'd had enough of Azreth telling her what to do, and ever since then she hadn't been able to bring herself to watch his training sessions with the mare. It was the only time that she had ever seen Azreth almost come off of a horse.
"Thanks for helping me," he called from the far end of the arena. He and Ciara was walking leisurely around on a long rein, and seeing the mare calm had made her start to relax.
"No problem. Have you had any interest in her yet?" she asked. It was no secret that Aleia was eager to get the mare sold.
"Not yet. And you don't need to worry. She hasn't tried to buck me off all week."
Aleia didn't say anything. She just sat on the mounting block and watched Azreth take the mare through the warm up; her heart in her throat the whole time.
As if Aleia weren't worried enough, Tammy came walking into the arena; her pony Six trailing behind her as she texted away on her phone. The short blonde girl put the phone in her pocket before heading towards the mounting block where Aleia sat.
"Um, do you mind?" Tammy asked, a snarky tone to her voice. The words had left her mouth before Aleia even had time to get out of the girl's way. She contemplated ignoring the girl, but decided it wasn't worth the hassle and instead went to stand by the door.
"Why are you even in here? Don't you have anything better to do than babysit your boyfriend?" Tammy asked as she swung herself onto Six's back.
Tammy had it out for Aleia since day one, seeing as the girl had a crush on Azreth and for some reason thought she stood a chance as bumping Aleia out and taking her place. Everyone could tell, but since there had never been any real conflict no one really spoke about it.
"Hey babe? Can you set up some ground poles for me?" Azreth called from the other side of the ring. Aleia flashed him a thankful smile before scurrying over to drag the poles out.
He liked Tammy just about as much as Aleia did, but the girl always paid her board on time and had never caused a real issue so there was nothing they could really do.
Aleia set the poles out and returned to her spot by the door as Tammy began warming up Six and Azreth began trotting Ciara over the ground poles.
Tammy was having a hard time getting her stud pony's attention, as every time he went by Ciara he nearly lost it.
"Ugh. I can't wait for this pony to sell. I need something better," she sighed, fighting with Six once again.
Aleia had already noticed that she was purposely sticking closer to Azreth and Ciara than she should have been, so she wasn't surprised when the next time around Ciara had decided to take matters into her own hands. As Six came within three feet of her, Ciara stopped dead in her tracks from a trot and double barrel kicked out, slamming Six right in the chin with one hoof and the chest with the other and sending him bolting backwards. Tammy hit the dirt hard as Six tore off in the other direction and Ciara went back to work as if nothing had happened.
"What the hell!?" Tammy shrieked, her hands fists at her sides as she stomped off after Six. The pony was shaking at the far end of the arena and looking around in shock. "That's it! He has to go!"
Azreth had decided he'd had enough. He turned Ciara towards the center of the arena and brought her back to a walk. "You know what Tammy? If you were keeping a safe distance between horses it wouldn't have happened in the first place. You can't be irresponsible and then blame your horse when he acts like a horse."
Tammy stood in silence fuming for a moment before wordlessly collecting her pony and storming out of the arena and back down the barn aisle. Aleia noticed as they passed that Six's jaw and chest were already swelling, and made a mental note to tell Jamie or Kipcha.
Azreth shook his head and turned Ciara back towards the track. "You know? Some people just really shouldn't have horses. Freaking princess."
