Description This is my submission for the ArtSpace contest over at CGSociety!
It was especially created for the contest although I could have submitted some older work of mine as well.
This was clearly one of the more time-consuming artworks that I did. Put in countless hours (I really don’t know how many) working on and off over several days until I was happy.
It’s all done in Photoshop, no modelling.

I did myself a luxurious favor and bought the Cintiq 12WX!
This was one of my first works using the tablet. It’s a pretty fancy device, but mostly unnnecessary luxury if you ask me...
I love using the ruler on it, painting the buildings like that was fun! And it finally comes close to how I work on paper when creating techy stuff!
Other than that, I really purchased it for doing more hand-drawn animation. It’s easier and more accurate to work on the screen like you would using a peg bar.

For speedpainting though, I prefer using it as a normal tablet, because your hand gets in the way and you lose the overview of your work.

Lastly, here are some close up shots at 75 % of this painting:

well, only since the Cintiq I actually taped a soft padding onto the ruler so I don't scratch the surface
Do you have a Cintiq now?

lol, cool! How do you like it? Do you paint exclusively on the screen now?
Wait, do you have the big one or the 12WX like me?

DanLuVisiArt In reply to Hideyoshi [2008-05-20 17:35:03 +0000 UTC]

I have thew 12WX, going to picck up the 21 for the office soon since it dropped in price a grand.

the 12 is awesome though, I only use it..havent used by 9x12 wacom intous 3 since I bought the cintiq. It's too cool.

My only complaint is that it gets hot :/

Hideyoshi In reply to DanLuVisiArt [2008-05-21 21:02:09 +0000 UTC]

Ah, I see! I kinda still use it more as a tablet to be honest. And yeah, it's getting pretty hot after a while which is a little annoying.
Also, the inaccuracy at the edges is bothering me a tad...
Whoa, the 21 inch dropped in price? i am gonna check that!

"Though the building now serves several functions, including as a hotel, mall, civic center, museum, and office building, nobody can deny that the primary purpose of this amazing structure is as an a monument, an architectural masterpiece that boldly declares to all that see it: 'Look upon this work of our minds and hands and see how great our society truly is!'"

It is just wow, incredible. All that work, without any modeling or matte painting...
I love the concept. The structure, the buildings... and that sky...
It is stunning me.

It belong to the pieces of art the most well-done and well-thought ive ever seen in my life.

Great job!!

Das sieht unheimlich sauber aus, du hast viele Übergänge und photohafte Farben verwendet. Schon erstaunlich, aber es hebt sich technisch deutlich von deinen anderen Sachen ab.
