Description Finished the mold for the helmet and tried a test casting. Turned out great.

Now I just need to fix the gap between the cam unit and the mask to finish.

Your helmet prop was really good. I was impressed.

I was all interested and curious about your pricing too, but I've seen no evidence anyone has actually purchased one of these. I mean, it's all very well and good to say "this is X dollars," but if no-one's willing to pay you that price, it's an arbitrary number that doesn't mean anything.

I have already been paid the full amount from the client that commissioned me to make this.

I have not set up any function for other people to buy a kit since I am still making the mold for the mask and want to make sure I am happy with it in its entirety.

However, I do have a list of people that are interested in buying a kit, some want it painted and some just want the raw kit. I plan to email them with pictures once the project is complete and ask for a down payment before I start casting kits.

And yet none of this is in any way represented, or apparent from "give me $300 and I will send you this thing."

I'd suggest making such information somewhat more apparent, if not in-your-face, as it would benefit your credibility, and lend confidence to your product and pricing.

Cause there are only two places I found any suggestion that you've ever sold anything. One was in the comments, I believe, on a deviation, and the other was on your Facebook for the 5k fet costume, but that came across like something you purchased. It makes me wary when I can't find evidence anyone is willing to actually buy a product.

Either way, thank you for your response. I apologize if I came off as rude.

Thank you for your input and I appreciate your blunt honesty! I will be posting more information soon to forums, reddit etc.. on how to purchase and what options there are for kits.

I am casting the first test cast for the mask tonight, so if it turns out the way I hope it does then I can post pics and show everyone what they will be getting tomorrow.

I know I have not done this is any typical manner (in fact somewhat backwards), but for this project my main goal is to make sure the helmet and mask are made as best I can, and I will not be selling anything until I am happy with the end product.

Absolutely. I assume this is what you enjoy doing, and you want to do more of this as you're able to. Given that money is, more or less, the key to that, you need to work on converting more interested parties to customers. To do that you need to sell yourself better. Yeah, products will sell on the back of their quality, but they'll sell better if everything along the way makes the customer feel confident and comfortable.

I mean, if ten thousand people look at your product, and a hundred of them would be interested in purchasing it, what number of them actually does is largely up to how well you sell your product and yourself. Since your helmet is good quality, selling it isn't the biggest thing, but if I don't feel confident in YOU, I'm going to be less willing to shell out money for something you create. And seeing that other people are purchasing something you made makes me think "What this guy creates is desirable to other people, and they're willing to purchase it at this price point." Something that's important, cause $300 is a fair bit of money to be spending on a whim.

And even if it only gets you ten more sales out of that hundred, that's a few thousand extra dollars for you, another ten customers that might be showing off your work, and a greater likelihood those people will purchase more of your work in the future.

But I'm going on a bit here, and I'm feeling lecture-y.

On a game-note. I've always kind of disliked the NCR. Whether in the original Fallouts or NV, they seem, while generally well-intentioned, like pushy elitists happy to steamroll over anything that gets in their way. I kind of like the brotherhood, but mostly just cause they look cool, and I really like the idea of power armour, and less because of their ethics. I'm kind of ignoring 3 on that note because the brotherhood there diverged quite a bit from the general brotherhood behaviour. They were more stereotypical good guys in FO3.

I need to hire you as my salesmen. lol.

That is extremely valuable feedback for me, and as I am just starting off in this business, you're the first to tell me something like this, so really, thank you!

If there was any faction I would actually consider joining from FNV, it would be the NCR only because they believed in the closest thing to democracy while attempting to enforce it in a civil manner. Though I think that is probably why you get the elitist attitude going on (while they won't enslave you, any opinion varying from democracy is HIGHLY frowned upon). I loved the BoS in F2, they seemed a bit more clandestine and "for the greater good" type. As far as looks go, the Enclave power armor from F2 as my favorite. I would watch the opening cinematic over and over again..couldn't get enough.

I wouldn't be opposed to helping out. Your NCR ranger helmet is amazingly well done.

No problem.

I'm not hard-sold on the idea of democracy in general. The problem with absolute rule is largely that it changes hands. I mean, imagine a world where one person who was intelligent, good-natured, and resilient to corruption was in charge.... forever? In this way Mr. House works for me. My only problem is his actual beliefs. Again, imagine if Mr. House shared your beliefs, and he would rule over the wastes for hundreds or thousands of years, with a robot army to fight off enemy factions, never even requiring Human soldiers lose their lives to the likes of Caesar's legion? To me, democracy is just the best approach we have for handing down power.

Part of what I liked about NV is that it was made really well. Supposedly some of the original 1/2 peeps were involved, and I can believe that. FO3 had a pretty strong "good guys/bad guys" division. FO:NV is a lot less polarizing. There are more factions, and none of them are really completely evil. Even the Legion, for all it's vile acts, tends to punish people it sees as morally in the wrong. Yet, you go along the spectrum from legion, to Mr. House, to the Khans, to the brotherhood, to the NCR, to the followers of the apocalypse. The good guys of the story (the NCR) massacred the Khans. Sure it was partially deserved, but there's a line between morally ambiguous and evil, and it stops well short of attempted genocide. You don't get a good guys/bad guys dichotomy. You get various shades of grey ranging from "well-worn" to "you do wash your clothes, right?" to "no, I didn't mean in ink!"

And yeah, I love the Enclave power armour helmet especially. The brotherhood helmets are just a bit... generic to really wow me. The thing that amuses me though, is when I was a kid, I was playing Baldur's Gate, and I think it was a little pamphlet, but it had the enclave power armour helmet on it, so for years I associated that image with baldur's gate, and only later did I realize it was from the fall out games.

Besides, come on.... Ron Perlman.

Haha exactly!

Playing a game where the good vs evil line is blurred is much more fun in my opinion. That's why I love the Warhammer 40K universe (namely the books). The Emperor's Space marines aren't necessarily good, and Chaos Space Marines aren't all necessarily evil.

I don't really like WH40k. All the different factions just kind of annoy me, and I don't really like the whole "everything is bad and terrible and shit, and it sucks, and you suck, and we suck, and let's kill each other" thread that goes through it. I'm more interested in things like the design and story of different factions in a general sense than in the game itself(* I'll get back to this), or in the .... "plot" for lack of a better term (everything is shit, kill, blow up, destroy, corruption, psych-crap, etc.).

* = I've played WH40k once. Went over to some friends I knew and we had a game using their collection. It was kind of.... eh. I like the idea, but there are a ton of rules, and I have a very.... minimalist approach to such things. To me complication is the enemy of quality. The more complicated something is, the harder it is for that same thing to also be good. If I'm busy remembering rules, and trying to learn how to apply three dozen of them, or trying to grasp something that intricate? That's not fun for me, and it distracts me from being able to focus on the game itself, which might be fun.

I'm a "less is more" kind of guy when it comes to the complexity of any one thing.

But yeah. I prefer a little.... moral complication in RPGs. And I certainly dislike when games let you be good or evil, but being evil just punishes you.

I mean, I thought about this a while back, and I came up with an idea on how to do good/evil better.
Good benefits others at the expense of the self, meaning you get less, but you form relationships and alliances that help you out.
Evil benefits the self at the expense of others, meaning you get more, but nobody will come to help you in need, and more people are outright enemies.

This is a commission that is for sale. I made a full NCR ranger costume 2 years ago, you can check it out in my gallery. This is my 2nd version of the helmet and mask that I've made more accurate and detailed.

(email me if you'd prefer & willing)

 A few questions:

#1 - How much are they paying if I may ask?  ...I probably don't have the money, but it's be worth saving up for!
#2 - What is the final material made of?  ...Is it just light plastic, heavy plastic, or some other material?
#3 - What was the process to make the mask?  ...As in, did you make the mold from something else or just shaped it all by hand?
