Description
. . . okay, so maybe Marge doesn't count as "scantily clad", but you must admit, a strapless form-fitting dress is pretty risquΓ© for a suburban housewife. You see, this is what I dislike the most about people trying to define any one "anime style" . . . there are so many Western cartoons that fit into them, along with many Japanese ones that don't. Not to mention the differences between genres, decades, studios, etc . . .
. . . yay for magical computers that aren't connected to anything. :B

Yeah, I hate it when people define anime as "people with big heads." What about Family Guy, hmm?

I really don't think there is an 'anime style' anymore. There are too many in-betweens of anime and cartoon, realism and anime, and western comic and anime, that it's hard to find something purely 'anime' anymore.
This all comes from being the 'anime artist' at school and people thinking all I draw is crazy girls with big eyes and huge hair.

Amen, my sister! (Or brother?)
God, but for lack of repition, *my* style is better than his. D< Has he ever looked at the human body before? I'm not convinced!

Just so you all know, Christopher heart WRITES the books, he doesn't draw them all by himself. If you look closely you will see the names of the artists.

Yeah, but the really *really* bad ones with no atomical value whatsoever, usually used to demonstrate color? That's him. I have little to no problem with the other artists.

Lawl. Probably not. (and it's sister)
I'm pretty sure he saw 'manga' and 'how to draw' and it equaled 'easy cash cow' to him. It would be one thing if any of his drawings looked alike, but he has no consistent style at all. The only thing alike in all of them is crappy cel coloring and sharp lines.

Christopher Hart barely counts as an artist period, and anytime he tries to go for a specific "look" it just kind of curls up into a ball and dies. D:
I got one of his books as a present once . . . aside from a little costume inspiration, I didn't get much out of it.

Wow. I actually didn't think you'd know who he is! Anyone else I've ever talked to about him had no idea what I was talking about!
It's nice to find someone else who thinks his 'art' is a bunch of squares with faces. I genuinely feel that people using his 'how to draw manga' books are loosing artistic talent XD
Katie Coope, however, is a good artist. Familiar with her?

Sadly, I am more "in the know" about him than most of the people you've asked. D:
Every time I see his or a similar DRAW MANGA AND BE COOL YOU GUYS book in a book catalog or at a book fair I just want to kick over the stand it's on. D:<
Will never be as craptastic as "How to Draw Awesome Animation", though. My god . . .
Upon Googling her, I am. :B
Those "How to:" books she had out a few years ago are pretty "ewww", but a visit to her site proves her latest work much more pleasing to the eye. :]

I just Googled that book, and I agree.
I hate the 'you can draw anything with shapes' books. CAUSE IT'S NOT TRUE.
The only good way to draw people is to practice and know the human body. Not draw circles connected by lines. That's molecular structures, kiddies.

HinoNeko In reply to Noniway [2008-04-11 16:11:39 +0000 UTC]
For seriously. Every time I try constructing a human body out of "shapes" like in the books, the characters all come out so stiff-looking, like a clothing store manikin. D:

Noniway In reply to HinoNeko [2008-04-13 20:17:14 +0000 UTC]
Mine come out looking like they've been streched out. Their arms and lecs are skinny and long with tiny hands and feet, it's really weird '~'

HinoNeko In reply to Noniway [2008-04-13 20:30:16 +0000 UTC]
Ew. D:
Yeah . . . I do like to have something like a wire-form under what I draw, but the classic "build bodies out of blocks" thing just doesn't seem to work for me.
Does fine with cars and such, though . . . but then, it's not as much a problem if those come out looking like machines. x3
