Description
Amelia took David’s hand. “Thank you for letting me stay at your place, David.“”Amelia, you are my girlfriend. That goes without saying.” David caressed Amelia’s hand with his thumb.
”And thank you for letting me use your bed. I hope the sleeping bag was not too uncomfortable.”
“Don’t worry. It will do for a few nights. So what shall we do now about you, since you don’t want to share a room with Svetlana, anymore?”
”I don’t know… I’m afraid your flat is a bit too small for two persons?” Amelia sighed.
”I’m sure we can work it out, if you want to move in with me. We can convert the living room into a bedroom for you, if you want. Or…” David couldn’t finish the sentence, since Amelia bent over and kissed him.
”The living room is fine for me. But first I have to bring my stuff from the hotel.” Amelia said.
”I can help you this afternoon. My uncle has something planned this morning. I guess something with learning about the hotel business.”
”Alright. I’ll see you later at the hotel.” Amelia bid David farewell while he left the flat for the hotel.
When David arrived at the hotel, he saw a police car standing in front of the entrance. Inside the reception, he ran into Martha. “Hey, Martha. Do you know why the police are here?”
”M. Sprüngli called them. Sami’s lamp has disappeared and hasn't been found yet.” the genie answered. “They already questioned me.”
”Since when was his lamp missing?”
”Since Quantum Adrenaline, the girl band, stayed here.” Martha explained.
”Maybe they have taken the lamp?” David suggested.
”NO! I was with them all the time when the lamp disappeared.” Martha objected. “They can’t have done it.”
”Alright, alright!” David tried to sooth her, when he was greeted by M. Sprüngli and a policeman. “Good morning, uncle,” he said, “is something wrong?”
“Commissioner Michels wants to ask you a few questions, David. Shall we go into my office?”
David followed his uncle and the policeman into the office. There, the policeman began asking him questions. “Where were you on the evening of the 15th, between seven and ten?”
”May I ask what’s going on?” David asked.
”My lamp has been stolen from the lobby, David.” M. Sprüngli explained.
”Please answer my question now”, the policeman ordered.
”That’s easy. I was on a date with Amelia Maus. We went to the cinema and saw ‘Come und chef.’”
”Is it good?” Michels asked.
”You should watch it. It’s really good.” David asked.
”How long were you at the cinema?”
”The film was over just after ten p.m. Then we returned to my flat.”
”You didn’t go to the hotel?”
”No, we spend the rest of the evening in my flat.”
”I guess Miss Maus can confirm this?”
”Even better, I still have my ticket in my wallet.” David produced a cinema ticket for the film he had mentioned.
”Miss Maus is on my list, anyway. If she confirms your story, both of you are off the hook.” the commissioner explained.
”Is there a reason why you suspect the hotel staff?” David asked. “Since you already asked Martha?”
“Well deduced!” Michels congratulated.
”The video tape from the surveillance camera has been tampered with. Only somebody from the hotel staff would know where to find the recorder.” M. Sprüngli explained.
Then, the policeman spoke again. “I’d like to talk to Miss Maus now. So she confirms your nephew's story. Do you know where she is, M. Sprüngli?”
”I left her at my flat. Her shift starts later.” David said.
”She’s at your flat? David, we have to talk about your love life.” M. Sprüngli scolded his nephew. “But not now.”
”I’ll send my colleague to bring Miss Maus here.” The policeman said. “Whom can we interrogate right now?”
”Svetlana Petrovskaya should be at the hotel.” M. Sprüngli answered.
David followed his uncle out of the lobby. There, he waited for his girlfriend to arrive.

We'll find out where the lamp is. But not too soon.

The commissioner is an innuendo to commissioner Matthäi from the movie "Es geschah am hellichten Tage" [link]
In this movie, the commissioner tries to catch a child murderer. He uses the young daughter of his landlady as bait. A really chilling movie.

If possible, you should watch that movie. There's a remake from the 2000s too.

Not so much if you know who the yellow genie really is.

A stolen magic lamp...
I can think of few things that could actually be scarier.

You refer to M. Sprüngli's reaction? Keep in mind that this lamp is over 4000 years old. Quite expensive, I'd say.

Of course, it would be extremely expensive. But that isn't what makes it dangerous.

Then I don't understand what you are refering too. Please explain.

Because it contains a genie.

Now I get it! You mean the thief is in danger since her or she might face the wrath of Sami?

That, and a carefully worded wish could leave no room for interpretation or of being twisted. The big question is, how can Sami be found even if he twists the master's wish?

All I can tell now is, that this story will take a very different turn. The case of the missing lamp might stretch at least to the next story.

I understand that, and it is part of what makes it scary since it might move from one person's possession to another.

We will find out eventually. But this story has another focus.
