Description
Amelia hurried back to the hotel. In her opinion, Martha didn't deserve to be locked away inside her lamp for a million years. So, Amelia planned to ask Sami to free Martha from her prison. When Amelia entered the hotel, she first ran into David.
"Good day, Amelia. What brings you here?" David asked.
"I'm here to help Martha. Her last mistress had wished that Martha was locked inside her lamp for a million years. Now, Sami must break that wish."
"Wait a second. Why would a mistress make such an extreme wish?" David asked.
"It's a long story," Amelia said. "Last fall, Martha had transformed a young couple into a couple of rabbits. Today, Martha had met the mother of the two young people. Martha gave three wishes to the mother to undo the transformation. And that's how the mother used her wishes."
"That woman must have been really angry with Martha, when she locked her away for a million years." David said.
"You can say that. When the mother learned that Martha had transformed her child out of a whim, she unleashed her fury on Martha." Amelia said.
David shook his head. "I told Martha several times that twisting the wishes of Masters is a bad idea and that she will be eventually be punished for that."
"Even worse." Amelia replied. "This time, it wasn't a wish she twisted."
"What did you say?" David was astonished. "Martha wasn't forced to grant an evil wish?"
"Yes. Last fall, Martha became a free genie for a day. And she used her freedom to transform Susanne and Marcel, that's the couple, into rabbits." Amelia said.
David was shocked. "Do you know how she got the idea to turn these poor people into rabbits?"
"We were at a cafe and overheard a quarrel between another girl and a couple." Amelia reported. "The other girl accused Marcel to have cheated on her with Susanne. Her suspicion was right. Marcel admitted it. All after all, the girl called Susanne a stupid bunny and broke up with Marcel."
David frowned. "That's surely not nice, but it happens all the time. What happens next."
"Martha and I followed the couple to a nearby park. Martha saw it as a cue, when Susanne was called a stupid rabbit. And so, she decided to punish those two by turning them into rabbits." Amelia ended her report.
David went pale. "And how did you react?"
"Well..." Amelia said. "I told Martha that she must know what she was doing."
"But but you didn't really object?" David asked. Amelia turned red, lowered her head and shook her head.
"Sometimes, I don't understand you. Sometimes you behave so cold. So ..." David shook his head. What was the right word? Alien? Inhuman? He saw Amelia giving him a questioning look. "Nevermind..." He didn't want to unsettle Amelia even further.
Amelia, on the other side, felt like in shock. "He's going to find out that I was a mouse!" she though. Maybe she should tell him? But not now. In his current condition, he might lash out her or do something else. Amelia decided to divert the conversation to more pressing matters.
"What shall we do with Martha now?"
"I'd say we let her locked inside her lamp." David cold-heartedly replied.
Amelia was shocked. "FOR A MILLION YEARS!?!"
"No, not that long. But for a few weeks would be appropriate. " David proposed. "Maybe having some time to think about what she has done will help Martha change her ways."
Amelia was uncertain. "You think so?"
"Amelia, sometimes you are really strange. Martha had willingly used her powers to destroy the lives of other humans. She didn't do it because she was forced to by an evil master, she did it because she arrogated to be a judge over the personal decision of these people. That's just arrogant.
Now, there is no law for voluntary transformation of a person, so it's up to us to decide how long Martha will be locked up. I propose we release her in two weeks. I hope she'll have learned her lesson by then. " David gave his verdict.
'Are we any better than her, if we decide to lock her up for punishment?' Amelia thought to herself. But she didn't state that thought. Instead, she asked: "Why two weeks?"
"See, Amelia, this is something I wanted you to ask." David continued. "For the next two weeks, my uncle will be away on a pleasure cruise. During that time, I'm in charge of the hotel. And with Martha being locked away, I desperately need a replacement receptionist. How's about it, Amelia. Will you work as a receptionist for me for the next two weeks? I'll pay you well."
Amelia thought for a moment. She could use the money. And working as a receptionist could be an interesting experience. "And after two weeks, we free Martha from her prison?"
"Promise." David said.
"I'll do the job, then." Amelia said, "under the condition that my studies at the night school won't conflict with my working hours."
"I can't promise that completely. But, we see what is possible. I know how important your studies are." David.
"Then I accept." Amelia and David shook hands.
"Great! " David said. "Let's settle everything and sign the contracts once my shift is over."
Amelia nodded. Then she went to the lobby to place Martha's lamp on its pedestal.

So essentially Sami isn't going to be released for the next two weeks either because it seems like only Martha visits him daily.

It seems so. Unless someone else summons him. But is that a problem?

This group will start to fall apart when Martha comes out and realizes David didn't want to help her so quickly.

That's for the reader to decide.

Ah, an interactive choice? I know what I'm leaning toward.

As I already explained, the final stories will be an interactive story. On several occasions, you'll have to choose the paths. You aready did by either bringing Babette back from SSU or not. And you also had to decide whether to turn the earrings back into a girl or not. Each time you got a codeword for your desicion. And these codewords will decide on the future course of the story.
Care to tell me what you are leaning toward?

I'm leaning toward David paying for not helping Martha when he easily could have. Have him driven away or be considered unworthy of Martha's friendship.
Because seriously, that was a jackass move to do in return for Martha trying to do the right thing.

Then you have to choose "Martha's genie side wins" when the choice is up.

Well that would be a very permanent lesson. How should Sami punish him?

Probably make him repulsive to everybody so nobody would love him again. Or just turn him to glass and shatter him.

I'm just channeling Martha. What gave you an idea? The first or second option?

The second option. Man, is that idea dark!

Of course. Taking care of the environment through recycling. Maybe a glass angel?

I think I might. I usually put myself in the character's situation when I want to know what happens next. And if I was Martha, and I figured out David could have easily helped but decided to teach me a "lesson", I would get so mad I'd tell him to leave and never come back. Or maybe tell David to teach HIM a lesson.

See it as a chance for her. Otherwise, she would have already ended like Sami.
