Description The next morning, Roisin took her breakfast together with the other members of the orchestra. The day before, she had convinced Mr. Burbayev to let her join the orchestra. Today, there would be two rehearsals, in which Roisin could prove that she could play with the rest of the orchestra.

“It’s good to have you back with us!” Damian Hayes, a violinist said. “What happened after you suddenly disappeared?”

“That’s a long story.” Roisin replied. “I had some kind of nervous breakdown. After I ended up here in Switzerland, they put me into a mental hospital for 9 months. After I was released, it was hard to find a job, especially without a good instrument. Luckily, I found a harp in a flea market. It’s not a good instrument, but better than nothing.”

“How did you earn a living during that time?” Caitlín Molony asked.

“I applied to several orchestras here in Switzerland, but to no avail. So, I played on the streets. Usually, it was enough to survive, but lately, I've run out of luck. I even had to pawn my instrument and apply for a job as a cleaning lady!” Roisin explained.

All musicians at the table gasped. “How could you do that? It's the last thing a musician would do.” Caitlín said.

“Don’t worry. I got my harp back. Besides, there are worse things, I could have been injured.” Roisin tried to ease the situation.

“Speaking of injuries: Does anybody know something about Saoirse?” Damian asked.

“I heard she had injured her hand quite badly. Yesterday, she returned with her hand in a cast and went straight to her room. I guess she won’t be able to play in the near future.” Caitlín explained.

At that moment, the door to the breakfast area opened and Saoirse entered the room. She didn’t wear any bandage at all and her hand seemed to be fine. Saoirse headed directly to Mr. Burbayev’s table. “Good Morning, Mr. Burbayev. I report back for duty!” she greeted the conductor.

“Are you ok? I thought your hand was broken?” the man asked.

“No, it was nothing serious, just a bruise. I can play again.” Saoirse reassured.

“That’s great! I’ll have to talk to Roisin about the new situation.” Mr. Burbayev declared. He and Saoirse walked over to Roisin.
Roisin, on the other hand, was anything but happy to see Saoirse approaching. “What are YOU doing here? Shouldn’t you be injured or in the hospital!” she yelled at Saoirse

“You wish! I’m sure that you are responsible for my fall, but I can’t prove it.” Saoirse bitched at Roisin.

“As if that were necessary, you second-rate wannabe harpist!” Roisin bitched back.

“LADIES!” Mr. Burbayev interrupted the quarrel. “I don’t know what had happened between the two of you. But I want to see both of you with your instruments in 30 minutes in my room. This orchestra needs a harpist it can rely on. Today, I’ll make a final decision that you will honor. Do you understand?” Both harpists nodded. Then they left the breakfast area to prepare for their battle.

Martha took a deep breath. Early this morning, a group of Chinese tourists had arrived from the airport and Martha, who didn’t speak any Chinese, had to struggle to get all of them to their rooms. But for the past five minutes, nobody had asked something from her. Then, she saw Roisin approaching her.

“Martha, I need your help!” the Irishwoman said. “Saoirse is back, her hand is healed.”

“But how? Yesterday, her hand was broken, as you wished.” Martha asked. Inside, she felt triumphant since that cruel wish she was forced to grant didn’t have the intended effect.

“She has a genie too!” Roisin explained. “One year ago, Saoirse used her genie to steal my position at the orchestra. She wished that I was locked inside a bottle, which the genie granted. Then Saoirse sold the bottle on e-bay and send it to Switzerland. Luckily the buyer released me, but when I explained what had happened to me, nobody believed me. Instead, I was send to a mental hospital.”

“That’s what it’s all about?” Martha asked completely perplexed. “The two of you are taking revenge on each other and you are abusing two genies for your feud?” Martha felt really angry now.

“If you want to put it that way, yes!” Roisin replied.

This comment nearly pushed Martha over the edge. Both women were terrible. But what could she do about it, besides trying to twist the next wish? “And now, you want your last wish, I assume?” she asked.

“That’s right, but not here. Follow me to your room.” Roisin commanded.

When Roisin and Martha arrived at the guest room, Roisin sat down behind her harp and began to play. She played pretty good, Martha had to admit. Still, it was obvious, that her harp wasn’t a good instrument.

“How do you like it?” Roisin asked. “Be honest with me.”

“You are a good musician, mistress. Still, the instrument could be better.” Martha answered.

“Exactly! And thus I wish for a master harp, so I can make better music than Saoirse.” Roisin stated her wish.

Martha smiled wickedly. This was a wish, she could twist easily. Martha blinked. Suddenly, a silver glow surrounded Roisin. She rose from her seat. Her clothes changed into a Celtic wedding dress. At the same time, her harp turned until the column of the harp faced towards Roisin’s back. Slowly Roisin’s body and the harp merged. When all was finished, Roisin was the column of the instrument.
Martha walked over to the harp and plucked its strings. The sound was much better now. A master musician would truly be able to make superb music with this instrument. “Your wish has been granted!” Martha said. Roisin had been punished. The first part of her plan had been achieved. “And now, I’ll have a chat with Saoirse and the other genie,” she added to herself.
