Description “Genie, I wish that you redecorate my room in the same fashion as the room inside the lamp, without doing any harm to me or my family, or transforming me in any way or locking me in that stupid lamp of yours.”

Martha’s jaw dropped down. Inside, she had to fight to delay that wish. “I thought we had a deal?” she gasped.

“Actually, I never promised you to waste my last wish on setting you free. I knew, you would try to twist me into trading your place with me, but it seems, I outsmarted you, genie! And with my final wish, you will be sent back to your lamp.” Jennifer said triumphantly.

Martha gnashed her teeth. “Listen! I really wanted to be on good terms with you. All I wanted is to be transformed back into a human.” A burning anger was boiling inside of her. “I never really thought of trading places with you. And as I’m bound to fulfil your wish, I can’t do that now either. I hate being imprisoned inside the lamp. I’d never do that to anybody else. But in your case, I’ll make an exception. You will soon see, how boring life inside a lamp can be, as you left a loophole for me. Your wish shall be granted, mistress! Your wish shall be granted!”

Martha blinked and Jennifer saw her room change. The walls emanated a purple, warm light of the same fashion as the room in Martha’s lamp did. Also, lots of silk cushions appeared, albeit in purple colours. Even the table with the carafe was there. There were only two differences: The passageway to the library was gone as well as the door to the floor or the dark tunnel from Martha’s room. Suddenly, Jennifer realised, that she was trapped inside her rooms and Martha wasn’t there anymore. Jennifer panicked. She ran to the luminescent walls and pressed her hands against them. Through the haze of purple plumes, she could see only silhouettes. It looked as if there was her old room outside, the one she had to share with her sister. Only that it looked much bigger. When suddenly Martha’s giant face appeared in front of the wall, Jennifer backed away in shock. “What did you do to me?” she fearfully asked the genie.

“I fulfilled your wish: I re-arranged the space of the house for a last time. The space of your new room was already compressed space, when I fulfilled your first wish. All i did was to transport it into your sister’s lava lamp. It’s the same magic that was used for my prison. I didn’t transform you and I didn’t trade places with you, as you stated in your wish. You are still the same obnoxious, treacherous girl, you’ve been all along. I just re-arranged the space of the house.” Martha explained with a vengeful smile.

“I didn’t know you can do that! I thought you had just enlarged the house.” gasped Jennifer.

“You never asked me about it.” answered Martha.

“Is there a way for me do be free again?”

“Someone would have to wish you free. Maybe your sister would do it, but if you treated her as bad as me, I doubt she will do it.” Martha explained.

Jennifer felt, as if someone had punched her in the stomach. She remembered how bad she had treated her sister during the last years. And now, she would be in her sister’s mercy forever. She would literally be her sister’s pet. When Jennifer realised, that her sister would never set her free again, her legs turned to jelly.

Martha continued: “By the way, there’s a magic fridge in your lamp, which will never empty. You see, I’ve prepared everything, so you can spend the rest of your meagre life trapped inside your new home! I hope you’ll enjoy it!” explained a grinning Martha. From outside, she could see the tiny form of Jennifer sink to her knees and submerge into the pink goo inside the lava lamp.

THE END

The Martha series has 30 Stories. And there are a few Bonus stories still ongoing.

Have fun reading the stories. And let me know what you think about them.

I like them. They show a good person struggling with morals,
and with others who aren't bound by those morals. She isn't
above revenge and justice, but she's not vindictive or abusive
of her powers. I'm up to the Jinni revolution, but I'm going to
go do something else for now. I'll read more tomorrow perhaps.

Always interesting to see the nerdy, plain-looking girl being the mean girl instead of the pretty, popular girl. Still seems like that's rare. Though we didn't see much of Cindy, so maybe she's actually really mean... eh, probably not, though.

And dang, if I couldn't imagine Jennifer laughing maniacally and twirling her mustache. She just seems to revel in it so.

I wonder if Jennifer is able to communicate with Cindy. And if she can, I wonder if she's actually trying to get along with her.

I think they will get along as good as possible. Jennifer is still Cindy's sister and now she's kind of her pet too.

hahahahaha. I like that little rhyme there
"You will soon see,

Its like Martha was already chanting a spell. *applause* great job on this second story. I look forward to reading the next one.

Doublecrossing Martha - bad idea.

Making Martha furious - You are in deep trouble.

I'm torn between her and martha.

@~hippo2 which zodiac sign do you think best fits martha? because shes is very caring, and a generally nice person but she also has a little bit of anger issues.

Actually, I don't believe in astrology.

But according to a description of the signs I found on the net, the ram would propably be the best sign for Martha. Rams are described with a firey temperament and this is definitely a character trait of Martha.

Why for both of them?

Princess-Kay In reply to hippo2 [2010-03-01 17:12:44 +0000 UTC]

Well, honestly, NEITHER character is the best of people. Martha is understandable with her situation, and Jennifer... who, having read what she has, would actually have trusted a genie? She should still have wished the girl free, and she wasn't the nicest person, but neither of the people Martha changed really deserved what they got as a permanent fate. Temporary fate, maybe, but not permanent.

Martha's letting her anger affect her judgment.

hippo2 In reply to Princess-Kay [2010-03-01 20:14:22 +0000 UTC]

Right! Her anger his her big flaw. It will cause many more twisted wishes, but maybe she learns to control her anger.

Princess-Kay In reply to hippo2 [2010-03-01 20:19:24 +0000 UTC]

*nods*

It's not good to get mad when interpreting a wish - Makes it a pretty good thing my genie isn't good enough to twist one yet. ((At least not on purpose... Which is actually a pretty bad thing, since she doesn't live in a bottle and has to grant any wish she hears, no matter how disgusting...)

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

hippo2 In reply to Princess-Kay [2010-03-01 20:43:26 +0000 UTC]

Martha's anger is fueled by her situation: She doesn't want to be a genie and just thinks, that it was unfair to turn her into one.

Before she can suppress that anger, she'd have to accept, that she's a genie now.

Hopefully, there will be some character developement in the nearer future.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Princess-Kay In reply to hippo2 [2010-03-01 20:46:34 +0000 UTC]

*nods* It's a hard thing to accept, knowing you suddenly have to obey the wishes of anyone who just happens to pick up your lamp.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

hippo2 In reply to Princess-Kay [2010-03-01 21:02:06 +0000 UTC]

On the other hand, she will see all spectrums of human vices, from greed to sloth, lust, vanity, pride and wrath (and maybe even more). Maybe these experiences will restrain her from becoming human again...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Princess-Kay In reply to hippo2 [2010-03-01 21:46:06 +0000 UTC]

Not sure if that's terribly realistic - being a genie doesn't erase who she is, as far as I can tell. She's the same person - she might get disgusted with that side of humanity (though hopefully she'll run across someone who's actually decent) but she can't pretend she's different just because she's suddenly a genie. She can be disgusted with the person who asks for revenge, but the fact is that she's doing the same.

The only thing being a genie changes is allowing her to play the part of avenging angel against those who make the worst wishes... and that's a pretty sad way to live your life, just punishing others.

I've actually had characters who are turned into new species with new powers against their will, and have a choice like this... generally, you end up accepting one part of it i think. In her case (just judging by what I've seen so far) i can see her accepting that she's not a member of the human race anymore, but i bet her being trapped will always chafe a little. (Because when she accepts being a prisoner to the lamp, she'll have given up not only her anger, but her hope for getting out of it.)

Hope I don't come off like I'm telling you how to write it...

hippo2 In reply to Princess-Kay [2010-03-01 21:55:25 +0000 UTC]

Basically, you are right. Her personality is still the same. And thus, her anger was already a prominent part of her.
But this change in her point of view might give her the posibility to reflect on herself. And then, she might try to change her behavior.
I allready have nearly the completely outline planned. Some details are not decided yet, but there will be some character developement.

I liked the art and the story, but I have a little question...Jen phrased her last wish pretty specifically...she said she did not want to be transformed...but didn't Martha have to transform her a little to put her in the lava lamp?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

hippo2 In reply to IAmGenie [2010-02-28 07:14:34 +0000 UTC]

I see your point. From outside, it looks, like Martha had shrunken Jen. But, she didn't really transform Jen.

In fact, they were already in a space, Martha had created by magic: Think of Jen's new room and the library as some kind of pocket dimension. The door to that room was a portal. So, all Martha did was transfering the pocket dimension and everything within into the lamp and to remove the portal.
