Description
Here we go again: there's a big problem near the Mall: anti-robot groups, rebel robots, self-made avengers, people and robots making their own business finding themselves in the middle of a battle.Atom tries to solve the problem, but judging how he looks, it's not going fine; the situation degenerates.

Too many forces and too many problems, all at the same time. The situation is tense and it degenerates fast. But as long as he can, Atom will try to keep the balance...

Sometimes I wonder if Atom genuinely feels overwhelmed by it all

I think so. Sometimes it's too much, and to save his own sanity and safety, sometimes he has got to give it up. Well, we know he can sacrifice himself for his goals, but in some cases, he just can't do anything. He can't be the balance forever, he's not a god.
And he can't be everywhere.
He's not alone, there's a world of friends who can help him, even important ones.
His actions could be used or interpreted in different ways. If he exaggerates, it can be counterproductive.
Yep, sometimes he has got to give up.

Yes, sometimes you gotta just throw in the towel. Even someone like him.

We all hope he will get out of there, and maybe he'd help to calm all those opposite forces.
But it's a hard task, even for the most advanced AI and powerful robot ever.

I think it's not just "today". I think it's human nature, and Atom tries to find the best of it in every person.
But now it's hard, even for the most advanced AI and powerful robot ever.
I use big-tip feltpens, the Giotto ones you give kids for play.
They are fast to use, but I've got to be careful to not make holes in the paper. I make even the tiniest lines with those colors.

And I kinda see that most racist people is on the same side with diffrent race against AI robots. We always have at least one major problem in our life

Yep, a major problem can kick away the former one, but the fact is that the problems stay there, they're just covered for a while.
In this picture there a huge mess, and Atom tries to calm people down, but it's not easy: the guy next to policeman took a magnetic gun, the same weapon the agent has.
I imagined there was a demonstration against AI robots, but something gone wrong; it's not clear if there was a reaction of AI robots supporters, or if there were some hotheads in the middle of the anti-AI crowd, who started the violence... or if there was a real robot action (this is a bit improbable, but when there's tension and an outraged crowd, even a spark can grow in a fire).
All this in the city Mall... with many innocent people and robots making their own business.
AI robots can be a real complex matter, you know. We still have problems among us humans, and there they come those man-made machines, asking for rights and respect...
Not mentioning the philosophical implication about who's alive and why: AI robots who feel and are self-conscious want to be considered alive.
And robots are stronger than humans, they are less complicate to keep alive, they don't need all things humans do.
There's enough to create huge tension, terror in some people and violent reactions.
In the very middle of this, Atom, the machine who is the closest one to humans, tries to not let the situation degenerate, but even his best intentions and the use of the 100% of his great electrnonic brain can't help.
A point for hope are the two guys behind the flower pot: they're a human and a robot, covering and felling scared.
It's for them that Atom tries to do his best.
At some point, Atom could be a target for both sides.
It's sad but maybe the most wise choice is to throw the towel and let others make war, if they want...

Poor Astro, I hope you get the issue resolved! Excellent drawing by the way.

It's not easy, and he's only one.
But he will make all his efforts to make things turn right... even if it was only for a bit.

I like the coloring, especially the highlighting on Astroboy.

Thank you.
I made the background very late at night, so I was not very sure about the final results.
Atom (Astro) instead was made first, and I colored him several times to give him the right highlight.
I always try to put the viewer in the middle of the action, as it was a snapshot or something like that.

The viewer is certainly in the middle of the action.
Astro is pretty much interacting with me when I look at it.

The main thing you see is Atom's hand.
He's a robot, so he has not got fingerprints or nails. But he has got hand-lines. Maybe less than a human, because his skin is not natural, but he has.
The very human-like hand is also clearly damaged, revealing mechanical parts.
I stressed this point, because I think is really dramatic.
Atom is on both sides: he's never really lived as a machine, but he's not human. In the middle of this, he tries to be the balance.
He can't be like this forever, because his actions could be interpreted in a bad way.
He can't forget he's not alone and he's not a god: all he can do is his best, but if it's too much, he can't sacrfice himself in vain; sometimes he has got to give up.

Since Atom is technically a machine is there any possibility he has free will or is he a deterministic being?

I am not a robotics scientist, and I don't really know if someday machines could gain consciousness and the ability to decide by theirselves. But we're speaking about Tetsuwan Atom (or AstroBoy), a hero from comics and cartoons.
You could ask the same for Data (Star Trek next generation), for the olographic Doctor (Star Trek Voyager), for Number Johnny Five (Short Circuit), for Daryl (Daryl, the 1980s movie), for Jetter Mars (a little brother for AstroBoy, from another universe), for C3PO and R2D2 (Star Wars), for all the androids in Blade Runner, for all robots in Asimov's books... even for Pinocchio or Frankenstein.
The point is that we assume that in this story there are many Artificial Intelligences, superfines, advanced, capable of sophisticated computes, and in some cases, even able to imitate human features. And Atom is so advanced that sometimes can pass for human.
The problem which makes Atom sad, in various situations, is this one: many people can't believe he's more than a highly sophisticated toaster; they say it's only a great simulation, just a bunch of 1s and 0s, software and hardware and that's all.
So he's treated bad.
In my opinion it's not really important if he's a simulation or if he is real: he's always kind, caring, ready to help and ready to save even the worst person, to reach his personal goal: make humans and robots friends.
I like Atom as character, as hero, as kid and whatever a human-like machine could be.
The original and always respected feature of the story, since his first appearance in 1951, is that Atom has been created by doctor Tenma as the most advanced and powerful robot ever: the best of technology, the best of power-source, the best materials, able to feel as any human does, able to learn, able to decide on his own, with a precise identity based on a real human kid, with many conscience levels and huge calculation ability.
We can't deny this, can we?
I can tell many things he does are not logic: some things are out of reach for a digital intelligence, even the most powerful. But it's a story, isn't it?
As I say that Zeus is NOT the most powerful God among others: I am not pagan and I know there are so many deities in the world who can challenge with Zeus, but I can't deny his own features. If I do, I create another character.
Osamu Tezuka, the creator of Atom and Jetter Mars, was a doctor, he knew human anatomy. He was not a robotics scientist. He just imagined that, with advanced technology, a robot could mimic perfectly human anatomy... and so all its features.
