This looks like something out of Winnie the Pooh.
Logic questions like why can't they use magic or fly and stuff aside, this is an adorable little picture.
Their solution and the way they're going about it give this nostalgic feeling of childhood because, let's face it, this is how a bunch of little children would go about getting a cat off a tree. And I love it for this.
The theme is a childishly pure expression of teamwork and friendship that would fit perfectly with the overall tone of the actual show. The little stool even helps imply that they tried this already bu couldn't reach her and needed to get something for a bit of a boost.
Their placement and expressions really carry a similar sort of whimsy that manages to stay in each of their characters. The ones that really strike out at me are AJ, acting as the strong base, and RD who is really trying a bit too hard. Personally, I would have felt a slight glare or look of caution would have fit better on Opalescence.
Your choice of colors is also appropriate because it gives the whole thing a soft and simple look but with enough variance in details like the shading that it still has depth.
And, seriously, the art style really makes me think of the in between of the original Winnie the Pooh with Disney's version.

Putting Spike up top would have been the safer, smarter idea, and would have prevented the pic from featuring what I hate about MLP.

I get the concept of Teamwork in this picture, but Twi or Rarity could have used magic, RD could have flown, Fluttershy could have coxed Opal down, AJ could have bucked the tree and Pinkie could have... you know done some Pinkie thing to solve this problem, I still love it though

The shading looks good for the atmosphere and it's pretty fun to see all the ponies piled into a tower like that. I say well done, I'm sure it'll stand out in the contest.
