Description
Some head studies I made for the Tokotas group intending to illustrate why bridles with bits are not functional for them.Plain and simply, a bit would have no place to sit and would chip teeth. Not to mention it would be extremely uncomfortable!
I'll try to work on a better, more informative thing in relation to Tokota tack in the future.
NOTE: These are NOT linearts. Do not use these to color in for your own Tokotas please. This is why I've watermarked them.

My aggressive male (Griff) does have a bit, but it's just a cord of rubber xD nothing serious.

I headcanoned that any bit used for them would be rubber or something they could chew on and hold in their mouth but wouldn't harm their teeth. Still halter style bridles are best bet.

Reffing is fine!
I'd just prefer they not be directly traced/colored in.

I'd definitely recommend using photogaphic references before artwork, but I have no issue as long as credit is given and my work isnt flat out copied xP
Thank you for the good questions <3

oh my gosh I love your work Hla, specially canines they are so natural looking. And I agree a bit for a tokota would hurt. Thats why when i design my tack the "halter" will be just a head halter with free mouth room and the reigns attached to the side or a collar with reigns on it near the base of the skull.
